"Read R.R. Virdi!" (Jim Butcher, number one New York Times best-selling author of The Dresden Files)

Myths begin, and a storyteller's tale deepens, in the essential sequel to R.R. Virdi's breakout Silk Road-inspired epic fantasy debut, The First Binding.

Some stories are hidden for a reason. All tales have a price. And every debt must be paid.

I killed three men as a child and earned the name Bloodletter. Then I set fire to the fabled Ashram. I've been a bird and robbed a merchant king of a ransom of gold. And I have crossed desert sands and cutthroat alleys to repay my debt.

I’ve stood before the eyes of god, faced his judgement, and cast aside the thousand arrows that came with it. And I have passed through the Doors of Midnight and lived to tell the tale.

I have traded one hundred and one stories with a creature as old as time, and survived with only my cleverness, a candle, and a broken promise.

And most recently of all, I have killed a prince, though the stories say I have killed more than one.

My name is Ari. These are my legends.

And these are my lies.

"Elegant, enigmatic and epic from end to end."—Fantasy Book Critic

"A twisting tale of political machinations, self-discovery, and myths come to life, The Doors of Midnight takes its reader on a journey to explore the value of stories: the ones we share, the ones we hide, and the ones we tell about ourselves."—MJ Kuhn, international bestselling author of Among Thieves

This series was admittedly a little difficult to get into at first but now I cannot wait for the third installment! It’s such an adventure!

Love this series

The world of the Silk road continues to fascinate in this second book of Tales of Tremaine. The descriptions are lush and vivid. The magic system is detailed and the nested stories and fables draw you in. I love the voice actor. Each character has their own distinct voice that is consistent through the book, so there's no confusion about who is saying what. Overall a great choice that's both exciting and interesting to listen to over several long drives. I definitely recommend the first book, but you can also listen to this one as a stand alone without being lost.

Lovey immersive tale

I liked everything about this book. I will say it left me wanting more. I’m excited for the next book

I love the stories within the story….

Story of a woke feminist hero set in olden times makes it impossible to maintain suspension is disbelief.

A weak man with masculine women get tiring. Use of plural pronouns for singular people is retarded. The constant angst and whining and guilt are unbearable. All together it is written only for a modern liberal woman. 🤮

Much of the story seems lifted from other epic tales.

Tiresome woke fantasy

rr Verdi butchers the kingkiller Chronicles with all the subtle delicacy of a taxidermist putting antlers on a rabbit and all the poetic flair of a college student using a thesaurus to reach a minimum limit. after his first entry, I listened to this one mostly to see if he responded to the constant criticism of him copying the kingkiller Chronicles, by producing an original work and though the book does take its own turn, as soon as Ari leaves the ashram it quickly veers back into plagiarism. interviews with the writer have quoted him saying that his first book was more of a love letter to the King killer Chronicles, but The second entry is kind of like the sort of Love letter that includes a severed ear and locks of your own hair. he actually has the nerve to insert a defense of his plagiarism into the story of the book around the last chapter, and while this is a laughable diversion that is a refreshing acknowledgment of the reality of his inability to create an original work. it is a laughable defense that he has given you 48 hours to ignore
