Resumen del Editor

This second volume of national best-selling author Susan Wittig Albert’s Darling Dahlias mysteries once more transports listeners to the dusty streets of Depression-era Darling, Alabama.

When strangers Nona Jean Jamison and Miss Lake roll into town, the rumor mill starts grinding. It seems that these two women may be the infamous Naughty and Nice Sisters from the Ziegfeld Frolic - specializing in dancing nearly naked! But when Nona denies this association, the Dahlias, who suspect she’s being more than just modest, begin digging around for the truth.

GREAT GROUP OF LADIES

I REALLY ENJOY THIS SERIES. I HOPE SUSAN WITTIG ALBERT WRITES MORE; THESE ARE JUST GREAT STORIES DURING THE DEPRESSION AND THE MYSTERIOUS GOINGS ON IN THIS LITTLE TOWN. THESE LADIES CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES, THEY GET INTO MORE TROUBLE BUT COME OUT SMELLING LIKE ROSES.

Susan Wittig Albert's work is great!

Would you listen to The Darling Dahlias and the Naked Ladies again? Why?

yes, I'll probably listen to it again. I'm always interrupted multiple times while listening to a title. Listening again allows me to notice details and nuances which I missed the first time around. And, I really enjoy hearing the best of the dialogue multiple times!

What did you like best about this story?

I'm a gardener and a garden club member; it was interesting to hear about the projects earlier garden clubbers carried out. I can't say our garden club has been involved in saving anyone from crazed criminals!

What about Peggity Price’s performance did you like?

She does a decent Southern folks dialect. I'm from the South, so phony accents are pretty grating!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed alot. Many of the characters are a real hoot!

Any additional comments?

To Susan Wittig Albert: please keep writing!

excellent writing

This is how you write a cozy mystery. Depression era, great well described characters and a small town story. Excellent series.

The Dahlias Just Keep On Blooming

Susan Wittig Albert has a wonderful series going with the Darling Dahlias. Darling, Alabama, could be just about any small town in the U.S., even ones that don't have a local garden club. The Dahlias are easy reads -- or perhaps I should say"listens" in this forum. That doesn't mean, though, that you'll find your mind wandering as you listen. There's always something going on! Peggity Price does an excellent job continuing the Dahlias' story. Her accent and characterization are spot on, while still being easy to understand.

There was one part that I found unrealistic. I won't spoil the story, but it seemed to me that a great deal of information was gained easily with a single phone call to a stranger. It would have been better had the information not come quite so easily.

If you're a lover of the cozy, Darling Dahlias and the Naked Ladies won't disappoint!

Sweet and Southern

Any additional comments?

More of the Dahlias' escapades in their Alabama town of Darling and absolutely delightful. The narrator is so perfect giving voice to Lizzie and Verna and the girls. I love the southern "flavor" of it all. It makes one wish for a circle of friends like these to share the good times and the hard times. There is a mystery plot, but just as enjoyable is the "getting to know" the ladies. There's something touching to me listening to their stories of the families, their spirit in making do and somehow making it seem wonderful. Perhaps, I'm just one who needs to get away from the reality of today's life once in awhile. lol Listen after the story is over and you'll get the recipes for some of the yummy sounding dishes served in the book as well as homemade household products. How neat! There's mystery, a little heartache, a little romance and lots of fun.

Depression Era darling Dahlias have returned!!

This charming group of women friends from Darling, Alabama are back again in THE DARLING DAHLIAS AND THE NAKED LADIES.  Calling themselves a 'garden club', these women are much more as their lives intertwine in joyous times, times of sorrow, and in an inquisitive spirit that sets them in the center of all mysterious events in town.

Seen around town is a stranger that looks just like a partner in the vaudeville team of the 'Naughty and Nice Sisters'.  Though she claims to be someone else, the Dahlias become suspicious when she shows up at the beauty shop to cut and dye her beautiful long blond hair to a deep brown----and she buys a red wig also.  She's supposedly staying with her hometown aunt, but suspicion increases when she wants to buy an expired sleeping prescription for that same aunt.  When a tough looking , hard speaking strange man starts asking questions about this same lady, the Dahlias go into action.

Once again, Alberts keeps these 'girls' very sweet and southern, while showing their intelligent curiosity as  true friends, one and all.  Depression era descriptions are spot on, and descriptions of flowers and food bring the reader right into the center of the Darling Dahlias' sleuthing activities.  Fun read of an earlier time and woman's relationships.
