After a miraculous escape from death, Brother Haluin wishes to confess that he was responible for the death of the girl he loved and the baby she was to bear, 18 years previously. Brother Cadfael accompanies a crippled young monk on his journey of penance - a path that leads them into a web of old jealousy and deceit. Prefer Stephen Thorne as narrator. Great story. Ellis Peters is an excellent storyteller. And if course Cadfael ❤️

Great story as ever

Brother Cadfael sets out on a journey of atonement with another brother who is in search of absolution. Along the way, dark secrets of the past are uncovered, and Cadfael must work to set everything right in the end. I enjoyed this one. We get to meet new characters and get away from the Abbey for a while. Patrick Tull, as always, does an incredible job telling the tale.

Road Trip!

Another Good One

The Brother Cadfael books are all good reads, but this is particularly enjoyable. There is less emphasis on medieval forensics, and more on relationships, although all Ellis Peters’ books look into the human heart. The gentle ending is poignant and satisfying. The narration by Patrick Tull is superb.

Beautifully crafted story of sacrifice and forgiveness

Wow, I had to grab the Kleenex for this one at the end. What a marvelous tale. Another favorite read in this series. Such brilliant writing by Peters with each book getting better and better. Though there is a murder in this one, Cadfael must go on the hunt for lies, and deceptions in this one. A devious deception has been played on Brother Haluin for the past 17 or so years. When Cadfael accompanies him on a pilgrimage to the home and grave of the woman he loved in his youth, the truth rises from the grave and points its finger, one that Cadfael follows to its conclusion unveiling a grievous deception. This was such an engrossing read. I truly enjoyed this reread of book # 15 in the Chronickes of Brother Cadfael. I love this series❤️
