A group of adventurers seeking fortune, fame, and power have set their sights on the legend of the castle on the hill and the treasures that are sure to follow.
A journey that was supposed to end in fortune releases an evil onto the land and ends up with a frantic battle of survival against a horde of the undead. The Castle on the Hill is a fantasy horror story in the dungeon core genre that tells the lore of a historical character and town in the world of Arcadia. It is a stand-alone novel that takes place in the same universe as the full-length novel Shadows End.

Having two of his fingers cut off at an early age hadn't done much to make Xandrith an agreeable fellow. Besides marking him as a pariah and having him shunned by even his own family, it had also hurt. A lot. Being stripped of a few of his fingers and cast out of the Order of Mages had left him bitter and angry, but if there was any consolation to be had it was that he was doing rather well in his new line of work. While perforating people for money might not have been the most noble of callings, it was quite lucrative.

Dark and Fast-Paced
Like most of Grey's books, this one, which serves as Prequel of sorts, starts out fast and challenges the reader to keep up. The plot and characters reveal themselves as the story, and the action unwinds, and it takes a lot of concentration to learn and discern the backgrounds of both, and even the world which is being built, all simultaneously. Still, compelling characters and twisty plot bring out 5-star horror with few survivors.
