Resumen del Editor

Brad Meltzer - author of the number-one New York Times best seller The Book of Fate - returns with his most thrilling and emotionally powerful novel to date.

In Chapter Four of the Bible, Cain kills Abel. It is the world's most famous murder. But the Bible is silent about one key detail: the weapon Cain used to kill his brother. That weapon is still lost to history.

In 1932, Mitchell Siegel was killed by three gunshots to his chest. While mourning, his son dreamed of a bulletproof man and created the world's greatest hero: Superman. And like Cain's murder weapon, the gun used in this unsolved murder has never been found.

Until now.

Today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Cal Harper comes face-to-face with his family's greatest secret: his long-lost father, who's been shot with a gun that traces back to Mitchell Siegel's 1932 murder. But before Cal can ask a single question, he and his father are attacked by a ruthless killer tattooed with the anicent markings of Cain. And so begins the chase for the world's first murder weapon.

What does Cain, history's greatest villain, have to do with Superman, the world's greatest hero? And what do two murders, committed thousands of years apart, have in common? This is the mystery at the heart of Brad Meltzer's riveting and utterly intriguing new thriller.

Performance Rating not due to narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it's a good story and a good narrator.

Any additional comments?

The rating isn't about Scott Brick. I'm a fan of his, and bought this because I've heard of the author, but mainly because he was the narrator. My main problem was the random music between odd chapters or when something got particularly "intense".. I think this is unnecessary and is likely a Hachette thing. But I don't care for it when it doesn't add anything (e.g., the story is based on music or a song or something).

Another mystery within a mystery

Brad Meltzer does it again. Sometimes daunted by length of his novels or reading them out of order, once I started Book of Lies, hard to turn it off. Great character development and interesting characters make the twists more believable and better at every turn. Good read.

EXCELLENT!!!

Cain and Able, the Bible, and Superman. How can it go wrong? I had to read this to see how Meltzer tied it all together, and he did a great job. This one is worth the investment. Be sure to check out Meltzer's website, too. Additional back-story info as well as current events on Superman and Jerry Siegel.

The narrative makes the book sublime

Very interest plot and references stood out when I was browsing the audios. And, for good reason. The narrator, Scott Brick, does an excellent job of keeping you tuned into the works of Brad Meltzer. Brick was really the key to making this work.

Although I enjoyed the audio and it did make me stop and ponder at times, there were still some plot holes and even the end...... Let me just say, it should have ended before California.

Needs editing

I really liked the story. It was original and kept you interested.
However, the editing leaves a lot to be desired.

There are way too many chapters. . . many chapters end on a cliffhanger, a cheap device reminiscent of the early radio shows that leave you wanting for more for next weeks show, but annoying and inappropriate for an audio format.

I almost stopped listening early on because one of the early chapters exploring the main characters background was so excruciatingly slow, I could not stand it. I stopped and started several times before I got through the chapter.

As I said it's a great story, some good editing could shorten up the story without losing anything (except an hour of wasted listening).

brad meltzer always entertains

I had read this book years ago. bought it on clearance at barnes and noble. this was my first introduction to brad meltzer. the overall story is good, with a solid and interesting plot. there are some slow points but overall its good.

bought the audio book since I wanted to "read" it again. the narrator was ok. didn't make me hate the book but didn't add much to it. worth the listen, especially when working.

Interesting viewpoint

Would you listen to The Book of Lies again? Why?

Yes - A rather topsy-turvy view of history from the beginning, but he makes it all so plausible that who's to say that it didn't really happen this way.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

There were definitely "driveway moments" when I got home but had to stay in the car listening until I finished a particular crisis

Any additional comments?

A really good read from a great author. And as always, superbly read bu Scott Brick.

Decent

I like Meltzer's books, I just don't love them. They come so close to having something special and fall just short. I do find that I enjoy them more when I just read them and put my own twist to the material, although Brick does a good job in his narration.

This is another one of those that if you have a credit you need to spend, it isn't a horrible choice. Just don't expect to be wowed.
