France, July 1944: a month after the Allied landings in Normandy, and the liberation of Europe is underway. In the Pas-de-Calais, Nathalie Mercier, a young British Special Operations executive secret agent working with the French Resistance, disappears. In London, her husband, Owen Quinn, an officer with Royal Navy Intelligence, discovers the truth about her role in the Allies' sophisticated deception at the heart of D-Day. Appalled but determined, Owen sets off on a perilous hunt through France in search of his wife. With the help of the Resistance, he finds Nathalie, but then the bitterness of war and its insatiable appetite for revenge catch up with them in dramatic fashion. Based on real events of the Second World War, The Best of Our Spies is a thrilling tale of international intrigue, love, deception, and espionage.

The story here isn't surprising if you know world war 2 history. It therefore becomes a proficient rescitation of one of the most interesting events of world war 2. But if you know this period it just seems labored. The characterization don't make up for the leisurely pace, there's no tension, and due to the plot there can't even be a love story. It needed editing badly because it repeats itself . The performance is equally bland with no great intonation just some stereotype accents

A good but predictable and therefore labored spy novel

It starts as an interesting twist on a spy novel. Set in WW2, we meet a girl who's a bit confused. She buys into the German Nazi party line, but not 100%. And we have Owen, wanting to use his mapping skills to help the allies. Their lives are on a collision course. unfortunately, the interesting cloak and dagger mystery gives way to a Love Story. Got boring.

Started out a spy ended a love story

Looks like the author nailed this one in his portrayal of the ruthlessness of agents in war. Keeps you hooked in to the last.

Amazing great tale

The story was okay if mostly predictable, but the writing was ham-handed (way too much boring inner dialogue from too many characters). The grammar was also poor and the speech, at times, anachronistic. Taking the cake, though, was the excruciating narration. The accents were awful, and every line was delivered as though it were. the. end. of. the. world! Pepé Le Pew would have been far better.

Awful narration

It’s a great story that captures the essence of the war against German and spy’s in the care of both

Great story
