Resumen del Editor

Will humanity survive?

Admiral Stokes' forces are scattered and beleaguered with no safe haven. The forces of the Woduur have decisively defeated the Lashmere Navy and invaded Lashmere itself. Humans are on the verge of defeat. Their only hope lies in the ancient ship held by an alien race that may want them all dead.

Captivating story.

I can't wait for the next book. Love the characters and clever mix of intrigue and military action. Well done.

Truly, an epic space opera

Michael Freeport has written another well crafted edition to the series. It has been almost a year since listening to Book 2 and many other space operas since then and so I soon recalled that this series involves several integral players including military commanders both space and land side, a couple of female braniac types who play key roles in moving the story forward, a spy network, several alien species with esoteric means of fighting and interrogating humans, and two human factions that, even with faced with human extinction, are often working against each other. Due to becoming again aware of this, I found myself re-listening to Book 2 to bring myself up to speed on what had transpired before.

The book does move the story forward but, at times, seems to slow the pace by spending significant time on the minutia of the moment. Still, I found the book very entertaining and would recommend it, and the series, for anyone looking for a compound novel focused on galactic intrigue.

MacLeod Andrews continues to provide a wide range of voice characterization which make for an improved listening experience.

Latest book in a great series

Another good listen in a fun series. There's lots of action and the story moves at a good pace. New characters and technologies are introduced in this book. This author seems to take a while between books which is disappointing. I would love to jump into the next book now. #Sci-Fi #Action #Fun #tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Terrible

It turns out that the only thing keeping the previous entries in this series interesting was learning about new species and technologies as they were introduced. Almost nothing new is introduced in book 3, and as a result the latest chapter is a boring slog.

The author's clumsy prose, passive voice, and poor storytelling combine with the narrator's lifeless performance to create an incredibly tedious audiobook. I couldn't get myself to care about anything that happened in this book, and had to force myself to pay attention through most chapters.

The titular battle at the end of the novel is so brief and dull that I can't understand why the author named the book after it.

Several antagonists from previous books are treated as protagonists in this entry. In particular, one character who was previously painted as racist, paranoid, petty, and completely unprofessional, suddenly gets vindicated and promoted to a major position in what can only be described as a childish fantasy.
