A detective on leave of absence, Bill Ouellet got on the bus wondering if this new woman had noticed him. He had spent most of the morning wandering aimlessly, telling himself that it didn’t matter what he felt, that what he was letting his mind do was dangerous. It could destroy his career and his family.
There was absolutely no logic to looking for something that no one else seemed to be aware of. He was about to go home and tell Victoria he was going nuts when he saw them get out of the car. This was a sign. There really were other forces at play, and now it was clear that they had chosen to draw him towards something that he could only guess but that would soon become apparent.
