Resumen del Editor

While dozens of parenting books address child development, Ann Pleshette Murphy's The 7 Stages of Motherhood addresses the development of mothers, who are transformed right alongside their children. As the former editor of Parents magazine and current parenting contributor to Good Morning America, Murphy brings the voices of the experts and a decade of her own knowledge and unforgettable stories from her own life to bear on this book.

The mother separating from her nursery-school-aged child is vastly different from the mother caring for her newborn baby, who, in turn, differs from the mother of a teenage son or daughter. In tandem with a child's development, a mother experiences changes for which she is often completely unprepared for, including shifts in her friendships, her professional expectations, her marriage, and her deepest desires.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The calming tone, plus the fact that Pleshette Murphy not only survived motherhood, but raised two well-adjusted children, make this a comforting book for uncertain mothers." (Publishers Weekly)

Focus on the Mother's Psyche

This work focuses on the experience of motherhood through the eyes of mothers, though primarily from the author, and throughout the whole gambit of a child's emotional and physical development (from conception to teenage years). I enjoy the narrative style which translates very well to audio format and is easy to follow. The balance of presenting factual and anecdotal information allows me to relate to it on a more personal and emotional level than I would have reading some of the other how-to or parenting books. I especially like how this book unabashedly presents the possible feelings a mother might have towards their child without being judgemental or devoid of compassion. Because the work touchs the complete development of a child from conception and entrance into adulthood, I realize how fleeting and precious my child's infancy is and wished this book was out during my pregancy rather than after it. It really gives me perspective in that I also feel that time goes fast instead of just knowing that it does. I recommend this book to would-be mothers and current mothers alike and plan on buying this book for my library.
