This review is ALL about the book and Jo!!! Listened while painting a room and felt like she was sitting there reading it while I worked. Loved and appreciate the candid “remarks” during her reading! Had me loving her cat, answering her back while she read, and saying right along with Jo, ”That’s not what this book is about!” Lolol

How relatable it is to a generation or two after my Gen X

Education has changed so much. I’m glad the youngest have Joanna to look up to!

Excellent way to kick off 2026!

The way the author shared her authentic experience with kids and how they have been both educator and student while being an employee in the classroom, really reflected my thoughts, feelings. Grateful for people like this!

The authenticity of the book and the voiceover being done all the way through without edits.

I loved everything about it. Now I miss her reading to me. I loved all of her movie suggestions and suggestions for raising good humans who think for themselves.

Brilliant Words, Interrupted Flow

I love listening to Joanna. I admire how she champions autonomy, psychological safety, and independent thought. But more than anything, I love her words. No matter the topic, I will always stop and listen even when I don’t fully agree because of the way she expresses her ideas. That’s why I chose the audiobook instead of the hardcover, though I now wish I had chosen the hardcover. The added commentary disrupted the flow and diluted some of the wisdom of her words. Am I disappointed in the book? Not at all. Her intelligence, passion for teaching, and most importantly her words are always worth pausing for and I will be happily buying the hardcover.
