An eye-opening report from an award-winning author and former New York Times reporter reveals the link between teenage marijuana use and mental illness, and a hidden epidemic of violence caused by the drug - facts the media has ignored as the US rushes to legalize cannabis.

Recreational marijuana is now legal in nine states. Almost all Americans believe the drug should be legal for medical use. Advocates argue cannabis can help everyone from veterans to cancer sufferers. But legalization has been built on myths - that marijuana arrests fill prisons; that most doctors want to use cannabis as medicine; that it can somehow stem the opiate epidemic; that it is not just harmless but beneficial for mental health. In this meticulously reported audiobook, Alex Berenson, a former New York Times reporter, explodes those myths:

  • Almost no one is in prison for marijuana;
  • A tiny fraction of doctors write most authorizations for medical marijuana, mostly for people who have already used;
  • Marijuana use is linked to opiate and cocaine use. Since 2008, the US and Canada have seen soaring marijuana use and an opiate epidemic. Britain has falling marijuana use and no epidemic;
  • Most of all, THC - the chemical in marijuana responsible for the drug’s high - can cause psychotic episodes. After decades of studies, scientists no longer seriously debate if marijuana causes psychosis.

Psychosis brings violence, and cannabis-linked violence is spreading. In the four states that first legalized, murders have risen 25 percent since legalization, even more than the recent national increase. In Uruguay, which allowed retail sales in July 2017, murders have soared this year.

Berenson’s reporting ranges from the London institute that is home to the scientists who helped prove the cannabis-psychosis link to the Colorado prison where a man now serves a 30-year sentence after eating a THC-laced candy bar and killing his wife. He sticks to the facts, and they are devastating.

With the US already gripped by one drug epidemic, this audiobook will make listeners reconsider if marijuana use is worth the risk.

I learned a lot from this book. The author makes an overwhelming case about the dangers of marijuana, especially related to schizophrenia. I knew marijuana had a lot of negative side affects, but I had no idea those side affects include violent psychosis. I highly recommend this book, because I think it's important that people be educated on the subject by someone other than the marijuana lobby that's trying to get rich off it. We need to know the true risks and this book highlights some of them.

I learned a lot!

Nice to finally hear about marijuana research instead of having marketing anecdotes presented as scientific fact. The history was fascinating, too.

Relevant topic. Research gives insight into what those of us working in medicine and education are seeing on a regular basis. I do wonder though that the downturn in sales is more reflective of an expanding black market. Well done

Finally a solid voice in the wilderness

I hope Alex writes a book about the $$ behind the movement! Why are Americans being mislead to believe marijuana is safe? Who are the politicians backing this travesty? Sales no where near industry predictions, Black Market sales are soaring..... Burdened costs to tax payer goes unaccounted for. GREAT READ!!

Wow!!! We need to be far more educated when we vote on legalizing things. We need to understand our mental healthcare system far more. We need to STOP! swinging the pendulum too far in the opposite direction when we think we are doing things poorly. No wonder we need criminal justice reform. No wonder we need better understanding of mental illness.

Any parent that really cares about their child/children should take some time to listen/read this truth-telling book.

THaNKYou!!! Alex Berenson

This is well documented information on the link of marijuana use with violence and mental illness.
I was raised when it was thought pot was safer to use compared to alcohol, yet I saw it influence people’s motor skills and perceptions in a negative way. America has been shielded from pots harmful effects and this book provides overwhelming evidence of the harm it does. Please read and share this material before more counties, states legalize pot!

My eyes are now open to the problems caused by THC
