Former cohost of The 700 Club Kristi Watts reveals the pitfalls that keep Christians from true joy and demonstrates the transformational power of speaking the words and promises of God.

How does a person bounce back after being beaten down personally, professionally, and emotionally? What impact do words, thoughts, and beliefs have in determining one's level of happiness? Kristi Watts asked herself these questions after her marriage dissolved and she left a high-profile position as a cohost of The 700 Club. Initially excited to walk into a new season of life that she thought held the key to happiness, she soon stumbled into emotional pitfalls that left her discouraged, disappointed, and distant from God. Known as the upbeat host who was always filled with joy and laughter, she was anything but - yet she was determined to get her happy back! But how? By learning, as Kristi did, that true happiness is not simply acquired but rather cultivated.

When one's words focus on faulty perspectives, faith is quickly derailed, but by remembering God's blessings and verbally claiming his promises, hearts change. Using biblical principles, Talk Yourself Happy illustrates the importance of relying on God to tame our tongues and train our minds, and it exposes the hidden traps that keep Christians from living lives of happiness, empowering listeners with the ultimate transformation of their hearts.

The storyline was a bit dull to frequenting on victim stance. All that is overlooked due to the joy & encouragement exuded throughout this uplifting read.

Great Narration!

Considering what Kristi went through in her marriage, she sure came out the better despite it! She held onto the promises of God & waited on him to answer her prayers. Kristi is very encouraging, joyful & easy to listen to. I enjoyed her book & would highly recommend it!!

Encouraging & Joyful!

I had high hopes for this book! I was so excited about this book after reading the reviews and listening to the sound byte. Kristi Watts does a GREAT job narrating the book. One of the best narrations EVER!
The problem came with the story itself. I bought the book because I wanted to learn more about using/ speaking God's promises. While I expected that the author may include some things from her own story - I expected it would be liberally interjected with how she utilized scripture, and maybe even some of the promises she claimed. That was not the case.
Three hours into a five-hour audio she is STILL sharing assorted details of her ex-husband, and the effects his lies and eventual abandonment had upon her and their son. At one point she switched gears for a bit, but only to belabor yet another story that did nothing to educate, edify, or entertain me. She met a wonderful counselor who was helpful in expediting her healing by being personally transparent and offering her unconditional love. OK, that is great for Kristi, and I don't begrudge her that, but frankly, that doesn't help me. Uh, where is the part about speaking scripture? Where do I learn how to talk myself happy, Kristi? It's all but non-existent in this book. I suspect that the author did not have a lot of content, practicality, or sound advice to offer and consequently used her own story as "fluff" to pad the book. The problem is I got tired of hearing the details of her pain and struggle - no matter how brilliantly it was narrated. After 3 hours I just could not care anymore about what had happened to her. I wanted to love this book. But in the end, I found that the author didn't offer me anything I couldn't get for free while listening to a divorcee folding clothes beside me in a laundromat.
I bought this book to learn how to "talk myself happy" using scripture and apply it to my own life situation(s).
I am sorry to be so critical of this book, but to be honest, I consider this book a complete failure. A real disappointment.

I really wanted to like this, but....
