The decision to write my life story began as an exercise to make sense out of it all. But it moved quickly to being a tool that would help me put it all in order. My life has been punctuated by some pretty dramatic events. I wanted to recall stories that had been forgotten or buried. I wanted it all out there.

I have always used humor to cover some of the deepest pain; we all do that, of course. I honed the skill. Yet I wanted to make sure my story is authentically Tim. Most of all, it absolutely had to bring joy to the listener.

For some, the adage "Change is the only thing constant in life" may relate primarily to the weather or one's outfit. Those have not been my changes, although I do worry about both. Joys and tragedies have steered my direction. These have certainly been big changes - some that I asked for, most I did not.

The theme "liberating change" rang true and authentic. As difficult as these experiences were when going through them, each turned out to be a blessing or a launching pad to greater things. It also had the world to do with what no one could ever take away: Music, humor, truth.

That's why I wanted to write a book about me. By sharing my roller coaster journey, perhaps others' twists and turns, ups and downs may seem a little tamer or at least conquerable. So take this ride with me; I promise it won't be boring! At the end, I hope you are smiling.

Tim’s humor and humanity shines through

I was fortunate enough to sing under Maestro Seelig’s baton for 11 years at the SFGMC a period which was its zenith imo. He is just as funny during rehearsals which in his 11 year tenure only dismissed us late twice both timed he gave us fair warning at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled dismissal time! At the beginning in his tenure it was my goal to someday become a HS music educator and I can’t imagine a better role model. When I walked past his podium I saw that he had our rehearsals timed down to the minute. From my spot in the Chorus this was very evident when he’d often comment “we’re doing great on time!” My fellow musicians out there I’m certain have experienced the frustration of Maestros/Maestras who lacked this discipline and more often than not going past the scheduled dismissal time. I can honestly say that all of my previous Directors held us over regularly. This is but one thing that set Tim far above and beyond all others. When I was student teaching I tried to emulate this and had a person in the front row signal the time I’d designated to work on a particular section to ensure I didn’t go over time! This I learned from Maestro Seelig and for this and so many other aspects of rehearsal I will be forever grateful. So, thank you Maestro!

I laughed and then I cried. This book had it all. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like this having been raised in the Baptist church and being GAY gasp, I had so many bad memories. I am so glad I got it though. What a wonderful book/audiobook. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

Listening to this book, I could feel all of the pain, trauma, wisdom, kindness, and humor that this beautiful man has to give to the world. I think this might be one of the most important books I’ve read in my lifetime. Don’t miss this incredible work.
