Great writer and book but narrator is too much

The reader was fine and then, not so much. To have a reader BE an obvious TYPE is a mistake. It's one thing to be able to do believable voices (women of men and men of women and ethnicity and so on) and another to read the entire story in the voice of a character that someone supposes best represents the narrator. The reader is too cute. A wonderful actress and does dialogue beautifully but the narrator of novels and collections like this really first rate collection, needs to be more objective in tone. The stories suffer from a patina of glibness that they don't deserve. It's kind of like colorizing The Maltese Falcon or Gunga Din or Citizen Cane. Sometimes it is nice and works (Dorothy opening the bedroom door onto Oz), most times it is disturbing and overemphasizes things that need no emphasis or vice versa. This is true of other readers on other great books made into audios. Stage readings can be great, too but usually they are cheesy.'
Stephanie Vaughn is a truly great writer and the stories are terrific.
