Resumen del Editor

The Sudden Impact started it all....

...and soon the skies would fill with ash.

How would they survive the apocalypse?

Cory’s life was hard. A horrific childhood, bad marriage, and a stint in prison set him on the path. His time in organized crime was miserable, but he had no choice. He did pick up a few skills along the way, though, and just in time for the end-of-the-world.

On a yacht off the California coast....

...he crossed the mob. The tsunami saved his life.

Would he survive the hitmen?

As Cory prepared to make his escape, fate put him in her path. Anna seemed helpless. He had to help, even if she slowed him down. Through all the looting, street gangs, and hysteria, he must find a way to get to his family in Indiana. No power, phones, or communication made things worse. Are they okay?

What is the state of the country?

What’s his next move?

You’ll love this brilliant start to the Brink of Extension series, because the stage is set for an epic adventure of survival.

Sudden Impact is a gripping post-apocalyptic thriller featuring flawed, complex characters and riveting action. A disaster/survival series perfect for fans of Ryan Schow, Grace Hamilton, Harley Tate, Jack Hunt, Boyd Craven, and Kyla Stone.

Gangster Apocalyptic

I did enjoy this book even though it is not your typical post-apocalyptic as it is more about mobsters and the main character of Cory who was saved by a tsunami, he saves Anna and they travel together as Cory tries to get to wife Janet and son and they are trying to stay alive with the disaster problems and Scarface. Interested in what happens further. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Gangbangers; all flash, no class!

The tale begins on a yacht, with Cory Lawson and Duncan strongarming Anthony Shanks to sign a paper. Cory refused to take fingers off Shanks, and Duncan came at him with a knife. A tsunami, evidently triggered by an earthquake, interrupted the extortion on the yacht. Everything went dark. Cory woke in a hospital, handcuffed to the bed. Ries Coleman, head of the local mafioso, called Cory on the hospital phone, threatening him and his family in exchange for his son’s death; Duncan. Escaping the hospital and one killer, Cory made for his hotel. Two of Ries men, Scarface and his partner Jacko, were on Cory’s trail, following him to the hotel. Three more mercenaries, headed by Brawny, were outside the hotel. The inside of the hotel was a mess, with water everywhere. Scarface and Jacko had Cory cornered by his room but another earthquake allowed Cory to get to the stairwell and down to the lobby. There he ran into Brawny and his men. Out a back window of the hotel he went, running for his life. So much for the setup of the story. Cory needed a gun, supplies, and to get to his family. Cory ran the blockades in the slums, gangbangers everywhere. He had a friend here that might help. Finding him should be his salvation to get to his family. Scarface and Jacko were hot on Cory’s trail. The Woo-Chin standoff was a farce, as was their escape. The gunfights were tense and exciting. Throughout the story I wondered, what is the deal with Anna? I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A Trail of Bodies!

I love the post-apocalyptic genre, but this book was just so different from any of the others I have listened to. First, Corey isn't exactly a hero. He is a bad guy. But he's trying really hard not to be. However, situations just keep happening to him. That is the basis for this book. It sounds weird. It IS weird. But, it works. I was fascinated by a bad-guy hero. And, I liked Corey. I liked that he was trying so hard to be a good guy. I like that it wasn't easy for him. It made the whole thing realistic. Annie then add a whole new layer to the story. You know from shortly after her introduction to the story that something is different about her, but you don't get confirmation of that throughout the entire book. You're just left wondering. I made up all kinds of stories for her reason for being in the book, but, in the end, I was only partially right. Now, I really want to listen to book 2 so I can find out more about Annie and what's up with her. As for the narrator, he was great! I swear he sounds like Clint Eastwood sometimes. He could do so many different voices and accents. He really did make the story come to life. This is a great book. It's different, but in a good way. If you like post-apocalyptic books, you will definitely like this one. I received this book for free at my request from Audiobook Boom and have left this review voluntarily.

Different and interesting

I’m not sure why this book doesn’t have the best reviews, as I didn’t read them, but I thought the book was great! From the first chapter, I was intrigued. The fast paced action made time pass quickly and the growth of the main character was compelling. Not many on the inside want to get out. Usually if they do, it’s because they’re just tired of the life and depression has taken hold. Instead, while Cory’s tired of the life, the love of his family is helping him stay strong. Pulled in two different directions, he needs to battle internally as the heat gets turned up and he needs to battle externally with seemingly never ending foes.

Too much of almost everything

This story is very cliche. There's too much of almost everything -- too much violence, too much injury without enough time to heal, too many coincidences, too contrived. It's totally unrealistic. Worst of all, it's unfinished and ends in a cliffhanger.

S. W. Salzman delivers a really fine performance. His accents aren't particularly accurate, but he does make each character sound distinct. Unfortunately, none of the characters are especially likable.
