An Elevating Sequel

Argyle definitely ups his game for the sequel, with compelling developments in story, characters, and lore that elevate the series. With growth like this, here's hoping that Argyle has a long career ahead of him!

4.5/5 Really getting some moments with John Carter vibes...and I love it. Adam Gold's performance also superbly recounts the events.

Tremendous continuation of Threadlight!

Stones of Light did not let down in the slightest!

The character arcs for Chrys, Laurel, and Alvarax were all quite different from what we saw in the Voice of War, and yet all were compelling. Stones of Light takes us deeper into the history of the ‘gods’, we see variations in what is possible for the established magic (threadlight), and learn that the heralds of old may not have been what people in this world are taught to believe. I could feel the struggle of each protagonist, and what I enjoyed most was Argyle’s ability to take a villain and humanize them, turning them into more of a grey character. I enjoy stories where heroes and villains are forced to team up out of necessity. This tension we feel whenever our heroes are working with the person we previously despised keeps a story interesting and real.

Something many of my favorite epic fantasy authors include in their stories is well-placed lore that ties into the story at hand. An old blind guy who knows more than he should, or the isolated tribe of people who have passed down oral stories that turn out to be at least partially true. These little clues from the past help the characters and the reader prepare for what is to come. The best of these nougats sometimes even facilitates one or more major twist. An established author who I think does this particularly well is Michael J. Sullivan and I make no secret that he is one of my favorite authors. Argyle is now in this category for me. This series as a whole is on a trajectory to become one of the greats in epic fantasy. I can’t wait to see what happens in book III, Bonds of Chaos!

*I listened to the audiobook and have to add that the narration is PERFECTION. Adam Gold’s voice is deep, rich, and versatile. I could listen to him read books all day. His performance brings out the best in this story, making the experience all the better!

Perfect Sequel

If there were ever a vote for perfect sequel, this would be right at the top of my list! It beautifully continues right from where book 1 ended and continues without allowing a reader to catch their breath. It adds to everything in exactly the way that could be hoped for. It is exciting, full of intrigue, deception and more. This is the type of fantasy book that I am looking for to intrigue the mind and keep me turning the pages without a thought to what time it might be. This book deserves all of the praise that it has received previously and I know join the throng eagerly anticipating book 3.

It is hard for me to pinpoint the strength of this novel as it ticked all of the boxes. From an intricate magic system with an incredible structure that is brought even more to the forefront to incredible battles between creatures and men alike. The part that I truly love about this series is the emotions towards family that it invokes. Whether it is a found family or the actual family of the characters, the emotions are real. I cared for them and wanted all of them to find the joy of family that they all seem to desire.

The other praise that I need to give is to the audio narrator, Adam Gold. He does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, maintaining and even enhances the voices of the individual characters. This book is one that will resound in the minds of many with the intricacies and perfectly executed plot. Draw the light into your veins and prepare for an adventure the likes of which you will never want to end!

loved it even more than book 1

even though this is book 2 i felt like the story really started to take off in this one. i enjoyed book 1 but was glued to this one. i highly recommend this series

Going strong

Loved the first book and loved this one. It's engaging and a really fast read. The story, the setting and the characters are all great. Can't recommend it enough.

The narrator does a really good job.

Just.. wow

While the last book was phenomenal, this is far better. I cried so much across this book. The narrator is also excellent.
I cannot wait to read book 3

Great story. Narration very good but a little slow. Overall a favorite book of the year.
