THE BRAND NEW NOVEL IN THE INTERNATIONAL #1 BESTSELLING RIVERS OF LONDON SERIES

"This isn’t London. The rules are different up here…"

All Detective Sergeant Peter Grant wanted was a nice holiday up in Scotland.

He'll need one once this is over...

Sea: check.

Sand: some.

Sun: sort of—but that's not the only thing in the sky...

This was delightful 😊. I enjoyed seeing Peter as a Father. The further development of Abagail's storyline was interesting as well.

This was a wonderful new book and I loved that it was in Scotland. I both enjoyed and was disappointed of so many chapters by Abigail’s point of view. I missed hearing more of Nightingale and since Peter and Beverly were on holiday I think I would’ve liked a little more of them. But I love being able to get into Abigail’s mind and story. She is the future of these books in my opinion. The story was a really good one. I loved the water creatures/people and there were a couple of twists I was surprised by. The series is in my top three favorite books series and it is so difficult to wait for the next in the series since finding it.I was happy to listen to this and probably will a second time later just to catch everything. A big thank you to Ben Aaronovitch for Peter Grant, the Nightingale, Beverly and Abigail.

This entire series is exceptional. I’d love more Nightingale in the novels. Where’s Leslie May?

Quick and fun!

Like as some others reviews this books story did not grab me and pull me in as the main adventure had with Peter. And breaking the story into two parts with Peter's story and then Abigail's in some parts made it feel i was listening to two separate stories rather then one. Not one of my favorites but filled the gap.

This story seemed to be more about Character development.

With a cast of characters as delightful as those with which Aaronovitch populates his Rivers of London series, it would be easy to forgive a book for other faults (which I found it a little necessary to do with the last book in the series, and I say that as someone who LIKES obscure theology.) Fortunately this time it’s not necessary. This installment is a solid new mystery combined with a continuation of story threads started the last time Peter left London. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is never less than impeccable in his delivery — i can, verifiably, happily listen to that man talk all day.

I didn’t thrill at Shvorne Marks’ narration and I got a bit fuzzy trying to keep track of who at FP Explore was responsible for what, precisely, by the end — but these are minor complaints that don’t detract from a sturdy police procedural, a plot that successfully raises stakes in several main characters’ relationships, a painfully realtalk window into the preverbal stages of parenting, and the same overall quality of narration that’s had me listening to every book in the series (including shorts and novellas) multiple times. And gifting them to everyone I know at holidays.

Thoroughly respectable B+ from me; comes in behind #5, #8 and our boy Toby Winter in my power ranking, but otherwise ahead of the pack.

Solid return to fine form

I enjoyed this book immensely. Having been a long time fan of the series, I was slightly disappointed with some recent books, but this one lived up to Ben’s standards.

The best in the series for a while

More wry commentary on the thankless nature of low-level police drudgery, more creative mystical mysteries, more good showings from Beverly Brook, spy foxes, and other friends. These books reward a second listen because of all the details, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is a national treasure.

Series continues to be a delight

The Rivers keeps getting better. I enjoyed the twists and turns, magical creatures, and the role of Abby, the foxes, and Beverly, what a tableau ! The Nightingale is a superb teacher. The location and description of where the intense action takes place had me hooked.

Great fun, intrigue, and science

Love this series, and sniggered at the Trump reference. Unfortunately, it will be YEARS before people don’t get that bit. Thanks much for this addition to the collection, Mr Aaronovitch.

Great entertainment as always
