NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Cal Kestis leads the Stinger Mantis crew on an adventure set between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the highly anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal’s crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More important, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy’s future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire the Mantis crew grows more daring.
On what should be a routine mission, they meet a stormtrooper determined to chart her own course with the help of Cal and the crew. In exchange for help starting a new life, the Imperial deserter brings word of a powerful, potentially invaluable tool for their fight against the Empire. And even better, she can help them get to it. The only catch—pursuing it will bring them into the path of one of the Empire’s most dangerous servants, the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.
Can the Imperial deserter truly be trusted? And while Cal and his friends have survived run-ins with the Inquisitors before, how many times can they evade the Empire before their luck runs out?

Too much lesbian erotica, not enough Star Wars

Overall, this is certainly a more adult book and not really for young kids. If you are a fan of the video game story of Jedi: Fallen Order, you'll get a glimpse into Merrin's thoughts and personality a lot more in this book. The story is really centered around her, not necessarily Cal Kestis. Which I think could be a negative point if folks really expected this story to be about him.
But as a fan of Merrin's, I loved learning more about her. She's definitely "xeno"-sexual in this book --- a term I coined myself because of the various races that we have in this franchse. She swings all the ways you can swing and I am not mad at that at all. I love that part of her. She loves because she loves. There is something really great in that.
I know people will balk and say that doesn't belong in Star Wars, but I disagree. I think LOVE in general is a HUGE part of this franchise, it started with Han and Leia, then moved back in time to depict the love of Anakin and Padme, and forwards again to see Ben Solo and Rey. Love, and all the messiness of it, makes for great, realistic drama in storytelling.
The story of the "Shroud" technology is pretty good but at times can be boring; I mean a "cloaking device"? You have a cloaking device onboard with Merrin and her Ichor Talisman --- sooooo.... yeah? But the book isn't about the story of this device, its about the story of this crew. They all have different goals, and probably never talked about them before. This book dives into those differences and how they chose to resolve them --- for now. And in that, I loved it!
The performances are A+++ stellar for this audiobook and Star Wars delivers yet another amazing Audiobook filled with sounds, music, and amazing voice actors that are chameleons with their voices. S-Tier!
A more mature take on the story of this crew!

The short version of what I want say is that there is no real objective in this story, no real conclusion, and minimal character development. Add in a pointless, overly verbose cheesy romance novel feel, bordering on soft core. Pass on this one.

Like something you’d hear in a Marvel movie. Not sure if I want to continue listening.
