Imagine a life with less: less stuff, less clutter, less stress and debt and discontent - a life with fewer distractions. Now, imagine a life with more: more time, more meaningful relationships, more growth and contribution and contentment - a life of passion, unencumbered by the trappings of the chaotic world around you. What you’re imagining is an intentional life. And to get there, you’ll have to let go of some clutter that’s in the way.

Everywhere around you are distractions: That text you respond to quickly, just to get it out of the way. The newest money-making side hustle to cross your mind. The evening spent organizing your overflowing kitchen cupboards. Disruptions are the enemies of a life well lived—both the new distractions of our generation and timeless ones that have existed for centuries. They all add up to make you feel restless, tired, and unfulfilled. They’re keeping you from living with joy, from accomplishing the good that only you can do.

Historia
In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

Everywhere you look, people in all walks of life are “going minimalist” and getting rid of their possessions. Yet as exciting as it can be to throw out half of your belongings, does it really bring happiness? Light is famous for taking minimalism to the extreme—and now lives his whole life out of a single backpack. In Travel Light, he shares his surprising revelation that being a “spiritual minimalist” means you don’t focus on material objects. What matters more than clearing out your closets is how much trust you have in your inner guidance.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Drowning in tides of toys, overflowing closets, and a crazy schedule, Rachelle Crawford assumed you had to be naturally organized to keep a tidy living space. Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Resumen del Editor
Courtney Carver shows us the power of simplicity to improve our health, build more meaningful relationships, and relieve stress in our professional and personal lives.
We are often on a quest for more, giving in to pressure every day to work more, own more, and do more. For Courtney Carver, this constant striving had to come to a stop when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Stress was like gasoline on the fire of her symptoms, and it became clear that she needed to root out the physical and psychological clutter that were the source of her debt and discontent.
In this book, Carver shows us how to pursue practical minimalism so we can create more with less - more space, more time, and even more love. She invites us to look at the big picture, discover what's most important to us, and reclaim lightness and ease by getting rid of all the excess things.

According to Blanke, our lives are so filled with junk from the past--from dried up tubes of crazy glue to old grudges--that's it's a wonder we can get up in the morning, never mind go to work, care for our children and parents, and just put one foot in front of the other. Blanke wants to start a movement of people across America throwing out 50 things (magazines count as one!) that will help liberate us from the stuff - both physical and mental - that clutters our lives.

We are exhausted. There's so much to do, and way too much to buy. Whether it's through late night TV ads, social media, or other sources of influence, we seem to be addicted to buying and then storing things. Sometimes we consume with no regret and other times we realize that we're doing more harm than good to our wallets and our homes. It's a constant cycle - one that many are longing to break. Who wants their hard-earned money to go toward something that soon ends up in a landfill?

We all follow our own path in life. At least, that's what we're told. In reality, many of us either do what is expected of us, or follow the invisible but well-worn paths that lead to what is culturally acceptable. For some, those paths are fine - even great. But they leave some of us feeling disconnected from ourselves and what we really want. When that discomfort finally outweighs the fear of trying something new, we're ready to opt out.

A Beautiful Book that Stirs My Soul
What a beautiful, beautiful book. And so loved the opportunity to listen to it read by Courtney. She has a lovely, soothing voice, perfect for narration.
I have read a good deal on the topic of minimalism and simplicity—from all the big names in the movement. Unequivocally, *Soulful Simplicity* is **THE BEST** book on the matter I've encountered, bar none. Other articles and books have offered practical wisdom and insights, but Courtney's book, beyond that, has touched my heart and inspired me to finish the race. Perhaps it’s Courtney’s unabashed authenticity in sharing her own story or her multiple lists of sage suggestions that distill the essence of the simple life or the exquisite way in which she sees the sacred in each and every moment we so often take for granted. Maybe it’s all of these things. Whatever it is, this book is a treasure trove of wisdom you’ll want to return to time and again. I'm grateful beyond words for such thoughtful and soulful work. It speaks volumes to the ever-present angst we struggle with in our culture of consumption and excess.

a guide to living simply ... well
I really liked how this book helps you work through simplifying your life from the perspective you are doing it to get more out of life. she emphasizes listening to your heart and being kind to yourself. I am on year two of simplifying life and this year with the help of this book I am taking a gentler approach and having fun with it! she has a lot of knowledge and experiences she shares that make the book memorable and a great story too!!

Really great perspective
As I continue my journey toward living a more satisfying life, I appreciate books that share a real person’s story. I really appreciate Courtney’s emphasis and reminders throughout the book that simplicity was a journey, that she did not land there overnight. As with most things, the things we want most for our lives take time and effort—that was another thing I loved. She said something to the effect of “sometimes we have to do the things we don’t want to do in order to get the things we want” and I found that very helpful and motivating.

Listened twice then bought the book!
I love this book. Even if I wasn't in the process of downsizing to travel with my husband and live in an RV, I would still love this book. I think many of us are allowing things and others impression of us to rule our life. This book touches on every question you may have about how to live with less.

Just what you need when you need it!
Loved the book and flow of the author. Some things I have been doing and others are new to try, but I feel it is a book everyone will walk away with something!

Great book!
I think that the author/narrator truly put her soul into this book and it shows! I am not sure I will do everything that she talks about, but am looking forward to trying many things, and for the right reasons! Thank you Courtney for sharing your story and inspiring me!
