Resumen del Editor

“If the thought of us being destined for one another is what caused you to laugh, then I shall laugh with you. Ours is more a story of mutual desperation than of love.”

Matrimony is the last thing on Elizabeth Bennet’s mind when she arrives at Netherfield Park to tend to her ill sister. When proud Mr. Darcy acts rashly to thwart a compromise and tells her that the entire household believes they are engaged, she dismisses him outright and refuses his offer of marriage.

But more surprises await her at Longbourn. Mr. Collins is ready with an offer of marriage, and it is not only her mother who thinks it a fine match; Mr. Bennet is willing to press the point until Elizabeth makes clear such a connection is impossible - because she has accepted an offer of marriage from Mr. Darcy.

It is an inauspicious beginning, an engagement neither desires, driven to by the machinations of others. Yet what begins as a forced alliance soon changes into something quite different. Will it be enough to lead them into love?

Couldn't stop listening

I lost a few nights sleep over this book. I usually use audible to help me go to sleep, but this is one of those books that did the opposite. Great narration and I enjoyed the unique twist. A little angst, but not too much, great character development, and not too raunchy. Although the beginning made me question continuing as I prefer clean books, especially regency era. I want to feel as if I'm reading Jane Austen, not some trashy romance novel.

Compromise trope? Check. Stevie Zimmerman? 5000 stars please

I am obsessed with this trope. Love it when Lizzie fights against the marriage a little bit and when it pays off in the end. More spice please though if possible for future endeavors. Steve Zimmerman should be the only an official voice for all pride and prejudice variations. I honestly have tried to hear other people and I cannot and will not anymore. If you are a addict of P and P variations, use your credit for this one 👌🏽

Obstinate, Headstrong People

Until they decided to be honest and humble themselves. Had Darcy been honest in the first place, he would have gained his goal much more quickly and easily. Had Elizabeth been honest, she would have realized why she was broken when she asked to break up.

Then again, it would have been a much shorter book. This was perfect!

The best narrator out there! Sometimes I want another just to hear Stevie Zimmerman read it!

Fun and sweet variation

This is a sweet, low angst romance. The main conflict between E&D is their lack of communicating their feelings, especially Darcy. I enjoyed seeing Darcy’s journey in realizing he’s been selfish and inconsiderate towards his betrothed. The most original aspect of the story was Mr. Collin’s deception regarding the Longbourn estate. Another interesting development was Georgiana. It made sense that Georgina had such a difficult time after Ramsgate, and seeing Elizabeth help her out of misery was endearing to read. Saye is hilarious as per usual in this authors’ works.

great reverse courtship story

This story has a very engaging, thoughtful take on Elizabeth and Darcys courtship evolution from the perspective of a match of convenience that grows into love. I adore what happens to Caroline Bingley! ;)

A Favorite

I do not understand the criticism of the way the characters are portrayed in the story in some reviews. We cannot judge their behavior by today’s standards. They were all caught in an impossible societal nightmare of expectations. Btw, Mrs. Gardiner is originally from a small village 5 miles from Pemberly thus her northern accent. Wickham concentrates his deceit on very young and impressionable girls as they are more apt to fall for his lies without thought for their future or aware of being skeptical of such a person. Darcy’s sister was taken in by him as he was familiar and she had no idea of his true character or intentions. She thought she was in love with him. She was not violently raped but certainly seduced by a skilled lowlife. Moving on, I really liked the book and it very much resonated with me more than others in this genre. Darcy to me is a sympathetic character and is swimming in a deep sea of emotions for all he has to live up to and the heavy weight of responsibility for so many people. There are many sharks after him even as he sleeps and by those he should be able to feel safe with. His elder generation of Aunts and Uncles only care about him in how they can use him, Everyone wants to use him for their own selfish benefit and even Elizabeth is marrying him for escape from her family and Mr. Collins. To me his actions are understandable as no one has his best interest at heart but only what they can get from him. Women in this era are of course victims of the times they live in and at the mercy of their situation and are desperate. Not only women but those of the lowest classes. So sad really. The story is a nice combination of humor and sincerity. I like this Darcy much more than the groveling, saintly, unmanly one. He’s mysterious, moody and brooding, often difficult and socially awkward but also stable, responsible and a pillar of reliability, integrity and loyalty. He reminds me of my husband. Stevie Zimmerman is outstanding as narrator. I have listened to it many times. Worth the credit.
