A Greek mythology dragon shifter romance.
When a demigod dragon shifter falls for a small-town firewoman, things are about to heat up....
Ash is a hot-headed dragon shifter with a nose for trouble. Sent to a sleepy small town as punishment for his daredevil escapades, sparks soon fly when he falls for a local firefighter, and sworn enemy of his clan.
Ember is a rookie firefighter who has always dreamed of being a hero. Trouble is, the closest she’s come to a real fire is sweeping the ashes from the station. But that soon changes when she discovers a deadly secret that places her in grave danger.
Thrown into a world of magic and adventure, both must work together to stop an ancient evil from destroying their worlds. But as flames leap between them, they soon find themselves playing with fire.

For this story we are following FMC Ember and MMC Ash. Both characters fight fires in their own particular ways; MMC magically and FMC via mundane methods. I got a total kick out of Ember because she's this fun blend of driven, practical, and a dash of madcap daredevil. That dash is what makes mysterious and hunky Ash a very drool worthy temptation to Ember, distracting her and making her question what she thought was a very straightforward path of becoming a firefighter and working under her father who is the fire chief. Ash is a brave but brash risk taker who starts our story off as kinda irresponsible even though he's supposed to lead his team of dragons and his temperament runs a bit hot and cold, even when it comes to his treatment of Ember.
Something I found kinda frustrating about the story is there's a very classic Disney Little Mermaid vibe of "But Daddy, I love him!" as well as mild rebellion that was a little confused feeling, making it feel like I'm not sure if Ember is an adult or a teenager. Her father also treats Ember like she's Cinderella only fit to do scut work and he doesn't recognize *any* of the hard work she's legitimately put in for YEARS at the fire station and for no conceivable reason. That young teen dynamic is a style I'm not a huge fan of, but I'm sure part of it is I'm a late 30's curmudgeon so it was harder to relate to for me. I also didn't know if Hunter, a fellow firefighter hopeful, was supposed to be a bully, professional rival, sort of romantic interest, or something else entirely but he was definitely hateable and supposed to be so that worked well. Ash runs a bit hot and cold through the first half of the book but he is worlds more supportive than Ember's dad even at Ash's coldest moments.
The world building and general common threads in the book series is definitely what has me engaged and so while this book sadly wasn't super my jam I think there's a lot here to enjoy for folks and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series to find characters I connect with!

The heroine makes stupid mistakes throughout the book, and I hated how she constantly put herself in danger without thinking it through. She would just head off and do something boneheaded! Despite this, I felt sorry for her and how her fire chief father treated her. He doesn't believe in her at all or believe her when she tries to point out that the young man whom he favors as the next firefighter is actually a bully and not worthy of joining their ranks. The father is bullheaded to the extreme. Frankly, I just wished Ember would quit that fire station rather than continue to be abused and misused by her father and the other firefighters. Her romance with Ash isn't explored as well as it should have been. I didn't get a sense of them truly falling for each other, but at some point, it just seemed to be expected and known even though it wasn't shown. They certainly have some opposition from his crew. Given that the romance was inadequately developed, their intimate scenes seemed abrupt, tacked on, and didn’t quite go with the flow of the story.
The end battle seemed like it came out of nowhere. Yes, a few hints were dropped about it, but not to the extent of the role it would play or what it even meant in the grand scheme of things. Much was missing throughout. This part of the book could have been excellent if the author had taken more care in building up to it and showing us what it really meant to the world she created. I have the next book in the series queued up and ready to go, and I hope it is better than this one.

I really enjoyed the storyline and the plot line. I like that the book did not fully stick to the traditional storyline and mythology.
The book had a great storyline , a great set of characters, and a nice plot twist you wouldn’t expect.
I definitely enjoyed this authors work !
