Unlikeliness reaches new boundaries

I've been listening to all available books in this series and have found them to be entertaining. I overlook the outrageously unlikely; this is fiction. But in this book especially, the police detectives spend all their time hunting for the coroner or each other. They invariably court death, even after being tormented by deranged killers, and notably "go it alone" deliberately deceiving their friends and partners as to their whereabouts. Repeatedly. So, yes, I am a little tired of this theme. But onward....
