Resumen del Editor

In his trailblazing Harvard courses, his internationally best-selling books, as well as his lectures and videos, positive psychologist Tal Ben-Shahar has shared his wisdom on finding fulfillment with people around the world. But even a happiness expert needs a sympathetic ear now and then. Tal found his - not in a fellow psychologist or guru but in his longtime neighborhood barber, Avi, who (along with cutting hair) dispenses wisdom beyond his years: Moving fast is important, but so is knowing when to wait. The more you provide for your children, the less they gain for themselves. If only people brought the same levels of commitment to their relationships as they do to their work. The best way to gain trust is to give trust.

Short Cuts to Happiness distills two years of Tal and Avi's revelatory barbershop talk into 40 brief chapters to dip in and out of, or to enjoy straight through. Each one reminds us how easy it is to find common ground on the things that matter most - and how good it is to talk with a tried-and-true friend.

Wonderful

You know what’s odd? I bought this book a long time ago because I was interested in becoming a barber. Sadly I could not find many books or stories that I thought would help me better understand what a barber does. I found Short cuts to happiness and gave it a fair listen. Got through half the Audio book before I stopped listening for a while. Coming back to it on a night where I have been struggling with unhappiness and emotional distress, the final few chapters came to me at the perfect time. “Learn to fail or fail to learn.” I’m taking that one with me. Tomorrow I’m scheduled to take a tour of a barber school here in Philadelphia. Blessings!!!

Our Fellow Travelers...

In the journey of life we turn to the tradition of human construct called institutions to bring forth and herald the best and most earnest advice...

TBS points out that it is the nexuses of everyday life, bearers of sartorial design and fashionable redress and arbiters of everyday advice that are our best consults, clinicians, and chatty friends.

If we listen to those we tend to wall-off with the tenaciousness of technology and slight of commonality, we may learn how to be truly happy.

This is because Happiness is not a grail, fountain, or lost city longed to be discovered, but a mindset married into the participation of living.

Be, and you may just see.
