Acerca de esta escucha

The enemy is on board.

Two massive ships are on a dual path to destruction. One is a freighter carrying nuclear materials to Japan; the other, a cruise ship heading for the Mediterranean. Neither will reach their destinations. Two factions - Japanese eco-terrorists and Middle East extremists - have joined forces to infiltrate the ships, incapacitate the crew, and change course toward a common target: The United States of America.

Detonation hour is approaching.

In Washington, Charlie Dean and a team of commandos are dispatched on a life-or-death mission to blow the hijackers' plot out of the water. Their plan: board the ship unnoticed, pose as ordinary passengers, and overtake the terrorists. But time is running out. The seized ships are crossing the Atlantic with the combined strength of a full-scale nuclear torpedo. And New York City is just on the horizon.

The plot of this book is very complicated, with too many characters. The references to ship compartments and latitude/longitude coordinates require a chart to follow them. This kind of book does not good for audio.

The ending was disappointing.

Worst Stephen Coonts book

This is a superb book. I am a big fan of Coonts but would have enjoyed it even if I've never heard of him. It was a bit outside the previous deep black novels the way he handled communications. There was more focus on the overall situation than the individuals themselves. It is well done, thought out and researched, a real page turner! I couldn't put it down.

A great read. Perhaps his best ever

This was an absolute torture to listen to I literally taking a month to listen to rather than normal I expected it to get better but it just seemed like a tired old story

Maybe it's the narrator but...

It was long and hard to believe. There to many technical details which this author likes to fill space with. His other books have been better.

OK book but not his best work

The Deep Black series is one of my favorites. This story is full of action with an interesting story line and well drawn characters. I'm not if it reads as well for someone not familiar with the series. It was hard to put down, I kept wanting to know what happens next. I also like the ending. There was follow up with many of the characters who aren't part of DB world, so you have some sense of closure when the action ends. I also liked the depiction of the elderly passengers. There's humor and depth in the writing that is so often missed in the stereotype of the fiesty old lady. As I think about it many characters could easily lend themselves to stereotypical roles; there's the nerd, the starlet, the Arab extremist, etc. The writing fills out the character and makes them interesting people. It's Deep Black so there's politics and fun technology, action, violence, humor and sometimes romance. No real romance in this story but there is real relationship among friends. I highly recommend this book.

A great adventure
