So much yearning - we love to see it

We love a man who yearns and Callum Macabe was a big time yearner!! There was never a doubt in my mind that Callum wanted Juniper mind, body, and soul. From beginning to end of this book, his dedication to working for her was everything.

Whiskey Business was one of my favorite books this year and I was a little worried that my expectations would be too high for book 2, but this book solidified my place as a forever fan of Elliot Fletcher. Her writing is witty, emotional, and deeply poignant. It was also really fun to revisit the idyllic small town Scottish vibes that come with these characters - such a perfect vibe. I listened to the audiobook and honestly had the absolute best time wit hit. Highly recommend.

Juniper and Callum's dynamic took me completely by surprise. I love a good black cat x golden retriever pairing especially when the mmc likes it when the fmc is mean to him and woof, we get plenty of that lmao. I was living for it. Juniper and Callum had constant back and forth banter that was hilarious, clever, and so much fun. They basically used arguing as foreplay and I was so here for it. The spice in this was top tier!!! When Juniper took control and was the dominant one?? Hot hot hot. One of my favorite fmcs I have read this year.

Aside from all of the fun parts about this, Elliot also did an incredible job balancing it out with some heavy topics that were handled with a lot of care. I've learned that one of my favorite microtropes is when a person who is always taking care of everyone and never takes care of themselves finally has someone ask, "But who takes care of you?" Callum had so much on his plate with his dad's rapidly declining health and making sure his siblings weren't burdened with the severity of it all. It killed me to see him run himself ragged not only handling that, but making himself available to help the entire town with whatever they needed. Needless to say, I was enamored with the way Juniper recognized that and made it a point to take care of him.

Like I mentioned, Juniper was a favorite fmc that I've read this year. There's no one I will fight to the death for more than an "unlikeable" main character. My blood boiled any time people in the town spoke badly of Juniper or made her feel less than the completely admirable woman she was. The idea that she could ever think she wasn't worthy of love absolutely gutted me because she was more than deserving!! Her arc made me so emotional but it was really such a beautiful journey. Above all, I just loved how Callum loved her exactly for who she was.

Anyway, clearly I loved this book lol. I cannot waitttt for the rest of the siblings books. I'm so excited for what's to come. My only complaint with the audiobook was that I wasn't the biggest fan of the female narrator. She was an incredible narrator - I just didn't think she fit Juniper's character.

Slow Burn Love Story

Juniper Ross (MFC) “Harpy” is a single 30 y.o. With a degree in journalism and is currently in the Isle of Skye, her hometown, to help her adoptive mum with their family Inn, the Ivy House Inn.

Callum Macabe (MMC) is the oldest of the Macabe children, he’s a veterinarian on the Isle of Skye and has been in love with Juniper since he very first met her at the train station years ago, only to find out that she was his younger brother, Alistair’s, girlfriend.

Callum & Juniper relationship is complicated, the fact that she is his brother’s ex-fiancé and still has the engagement ring on her shelf and that about a year or so after splitting up, Callum & her almost spent the night together in Glasgow.

The sweetest black cat love story

I loved everything about this story. The emotions were deep, the yearning was intense, the communication was top tier. Even the conflict was handled with so much love and respect, and it was a legitimate conflict instead of a contrived scenario. I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Loved the narration as well. Their inflection and emotion gave the characters even more depth than they already had.
