Sci Fi Shorts is a collection of classic science fiction stories from the "Golden" age of space stories. This group of nine unabridged short stories by seven authors covers such adventures, as hidden aliens on earth, a conquered humanity, super villains made by super science and time travel.

Please note that some sentences deliberately end unfinished during the first story which represents the protagonists thought patterns, and is an accurate representation of the original text.

Great Quick Stories

Would you listen to Sci-Fi Shorts, Volume 1 again? Why?

I will definitely give this volume a second and possible third listen. I like to catch every little nuance that each author is trying to impart by telling the story.

What did you like best about this story?

There are several stories in this volume, and each has its merits. Some catch you at the end with a plot twist that was unexpected, others you get the idea of what is coming, but it makes the end no less gratifying.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was hard to understand at first, but I quickly grew accustomed to his accent. He imparted some feeling into most of the stories, and even sounded as if he had some knowledge of the locals of some of the stories. Overall I felt this was worth my purchase. One minor gripe is that it is hard to know at times when one story ends and the next begins, there should be a slightly longer pause perhaps.

Diverse Stories/quality

Its like going to your favorite restaurant, looking at the menue, ordering a delicious sounding soup from your favorite chef, and having it taste like dish water.
Not my favorite, struggled thru some... its not just stories, but the way it was read/mumbled.
I know non of it was memorable, coz I forgot them as soon as it was done.
Most felt like unfleshed out ideas or notes for stories, cobbled together, unfinished...

The stories themselves were a bit of a mixed bag, but more were good than bad. My favorite was probably "The Eternal Wall," which was a great melancholy "Dying Earth" type story. "The Slizzers" was nicely creepy. "The Measure of a Man" was a classic hard sf puzzle story that plays fair with the reader, giving them the opportunity to solve the problem before the character - even if the solution isn't too pleasant.

The narrator does a good job with the characters and their voices. All of the stories are in the public domain, but I didn't mind paying a little bit of money for the privilege of having him read them to me while I was doing cardio.
