Acerca de esta escucha

Loup Garron was born and raised in Santa Olivia, an isolated, disenfranchised town next to a U.S. military base inside a demilitarized buffer zone between Texas and Mexico. A fugitive "Wolf-Man" who had a love affair with a local woman, Loup's father was one of a group of men genetically manipulated and used by the U.S. government as a weapon. The "Wolf-Men" were engineered to have superhuman strength, speed, sensory capability, stamina, and a total lack of fear, and Loup, named for and sharing her father's wolf-like qualities, is marked as an outsider.©2009 Jacqueline Carey (P)2009 Tantor Contemporario Fantasía Ficción Paranormal Paranormal y Urbano Lobo

When you expect a superhero book but get a sports/boxing book instead. Still, well written, good character development, interesting story.

When you expect a superhero book but...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Government conspiracy, genetic mutation, mistreatment of immigrants requiring social ministry, lots of action and a love story all taking place in the life of a 14-year old girl living near A WALL separating the haves and the have nots! This is Jacqueline Carey stripping away the lubricious language and providing a hard-charging new heroine caught in a dystopian border town. What a graphic novel this would make - what a MOVIE this could be. Teens should love it, Jacqueline's fans will find much new energy to enjoy. This is a grabber and - oh joy - just as I finish it I learn, THERE IS A SEQUEL.

What did you like best about this story?

Clever plotting, moving characters, everything I expect from Jacqueline Carey but in a totally different world.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Susan Ericksen?

Ms.Ericksen tries too hard to keep track of character voices that do not appear to be her forte. I especially wish she would learn how to pronounce the word "room," which is not intended to rhyme with "bum."

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Had to fight to find time to listen. It is captivating (as usual for Ms. Carey), innovative and strangely predicted some of the political scene of 2016. Hoping lots of YP readers get 'hold of it and enjoy Loup's journey of discovery.

Any additional comments?

Very anxious to get started in book 2!!!

A new millennium Wonder Woman for YPs (and up)

From what I have read of the author, her characters all are fighting personal demons, even in the Kushiel series which I enjoyed. This is a bit different, but none the less a journey into plots and the strength of will to over come. Not the best work by JC but not half bad. Hoping for another book in this series to explain more and deepen the characters as in the Kushiel series. If you are expecting Kushiel then skip this, if you can open your mind to a different kind of country that many of us believe we are living in you might be surprised and say I can believe that our government has been hiding things for years.

Jacqueline Carey touches on something different

A post-apocalyptic sci-fi romance with scrappy, crafty orphans, boxing and queer werewolves. Surprisingly well written, highly reccomended!

Delightfully engaging!

Where does Santa Olivia rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the middle.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jacqueline Carey? Why or why not?

Yes. I will finish the series

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Well done.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Rocky meets the Mockingjay

Any additional comments?

Light and fun but not Terre d'Ange

This is a great story and unlike her other books. This story is very interesting and hooks you right from the start. The narrator is just OK. I will buy the next book that should come out late in 2011.

Jacqueline Carey continues to shine!

Wow! This was my favorite Jacqueline Carey novel. Of course, those who know me know that the book I am currently reading is always my favorite!

If you are a fan of James Patterson's Maximum Ride books but maybe longed for something a little more mature, you will love this book, too. I think I should warn of language, and sexuality. It seems appropriate, though, considering the future dystopia the characters live in.

This was my first time reading a book on my tablet (Kindle app) while listening to the Audible version, yeah, there's an app for both. The narrator, Susan Ericksen, was excellent. I loved her cadence, characterizations, and voice. I wish I could read like that.

I went to Jacqueline Carey's website, and there is a sequel I can hardly wait to read. It will be out soon. In the meanwhile, I will miss Carey's poetic worlds.

Loved It!

What did you love best about Santa Olivia?

Santa Olivia delivers an interesting twist on a classic supernatural story through its unique cast of characters in Outpost. The narrative follows these characters as they grow and confront personal and societal challenges in their hometown. The book explores themes like gender norms, disenfranchisement and occupation, kinship, education, grief and love, one's purpose in life and other themes within these coming of age stories. There's a character for every reader!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

A friend introduced me to Santa Olivia as my first audio book. I was immediately taken in by the story and by the narrator's voice acting. Her inflection, pace, and voices for the characters have made this a repeat book for me to listen to. I enjoy it every time, and now I look for other narrations by Susan Ericksen.

If you want to immerse yourself in an easy and entertaining piece of fiction, this is a book for you.
