Look for Wreck, the new novel by Catherine Newman—a deeply moving story of laughter and heart, about marriage, family, and what happens when life doesn’t go as planned—Coming October 2025.

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Sandwich is joy in book form. I laughed continuously, except for the parts that made me cry. Catherine Newman does a miraculous job reminding us of all the wonder there is to be found in life.""—Ann Patchett, New York Times bestselling author of Tom Lake

“If you like my novels, you will love love love this . . . . I stand in awe, it’s just perfect.”—Elin Hilderbrand, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Swan Song

“A total delight.”—Kate Christensen

From the beloved author of We All Want Impossible Things, a moving, hilarious story of a family summer vacation full of secrets, lunch, and learning to let go.

For the past two decades, Rocky has looked forward to her family’s yearly escape to Cape Cod. Their humble beach-town rental has been the site of sweet memories, sunny days, great meals, and messes of all kinds: emotional, marital, and—thanks to the cottage’s ancient plumbing—septic too.

This year’s vacation, with Rocky sandwiched between her half-grown kids and fully aging parents, promises to be just as delightful as summers past—except, perhaps, for Rocky’s hormonal bouts of rage and melancholy. (Hello, menopause!) Her body is changing—her life is, too. And then a chain of events sends Rocky into the past, reliving both the tenderness and sorrow of a handful of long-ago summers.

It's one precious week: everything is in balance; everything is in flux. And when Rocky comes face to face with her family’s history and future, she is forced to accept that she can no longer hide her secrets from the people she loves.

Very short (good summer read) but disappointing; didn’t love the narrator.. interesting topic but and liked imagining the setting but just didn’t grab me..

Disappointed , didn’t love the story or narrator

When the reader reads any of the parts from the 20 something year-old daughter, she reads it as though the girl is 10. It kills the book.

So relatable, so funny, so sad, but mostly so relatable. Will read this again, at least once!!

Loved, loved, loved

The Mom was total cringe. Poor Nick. You're married you have two children and you find yourself pregnant and you have an abortion because you love your two perfect children SO MUCH You just can't stand it. You're just beside yourself in love with them and can't possibly love another one! WOW how many actual women out there are having an abortion for this stupid ass reason? REALLY? Horrible I kept reading it just because that's how I am and it just didn't get any better yikes.

It was annoyingly politically correct

I wish the characters had been a bit deeper. However, some of the observations about life, health and gone were right on this point! Laugh out loud fun!

this book nailed the menopause years!

This had the makings to be a stellar book. But the last 2 to 3 chapters were so full of a part of the story that could’ve been told in two chapters. I didn’t need three chapters of the far left agenda. I’m a pretty middle of the ground libertarian, but this ruined it for me.

Leave out the agenda and tell the story

Audible makes reading books entertaining. The narrators for The Story of My Life offered the right pitch and tone to emulate the emotional moments in a story of a change in the life of a romance novelist.

Great story, great narrative

Everything about this book hit just perfectly. The story, humor, characters…everything. Maybe it’s the season of life that I’m in. No matter. It was a fantastic and relatable story that had me laughing, crying, and contemplating so many things about my own life. Absolutely perfect!!

Captivated from the start

In some ways it felt like a conversation with friends, but it was also just too predictable.

Predictable

I am a woman in my 50s and this is my story, and I hated it! Yes, there were nuggets of wisdom and moments that I laughed out loud because I could completely relate to the hot flashes and menopause, blah blah. But for the most part, I found this story boring and annoying. The main character is so trapped by the nostalgia of her life she can’t move forward! Save your credit for something worthy

Annoying
