Resumen del Editor

A paradigm-shifting book in the vein of Sapiens that brings a crucial Indigenous perspective to historical and cultural issues of history, education, money, power, and sustainability - and offers a new template for living.

As an indigenous person, Tyson Yunkaporta looks at global systems from a unique perspective, one tied to the natural and spiritual world. In considering how contemporary life diverges from the pattern of creation, he raises important questions. How does this affect us? How can we do things differently?

In this thoughtful, culturally rich, mind-expanding book, he provides answers. Yunkaporta’s writing process begins with images. Honoring indigenous traditions, he makes carvings of what he wants to say, channeling his thoughts through symbols and diagrams rather than words. He yarns with people, looking for ways to connect images and stories with place and relationship to create a coherent world view, and he uses sand talk, the Aboriginal custom of drawing images on the ground to convey knowledge.

In Sand Talk, he provides a new model for our everyday lives. Rich in ideas and inspiration, it explains how lines and symbols and shapes can help us make sense of the world. It’s about how we learn and how we remember. It’s about talking to everyone and listening carefully. It’s about finding different ways to look at things. Most of all it’s about a very special way of thinking, of learning to see from a native perspective, one that is spiritually and physically tied to the earth around us, and how it can save our world.

Must read for anyone trying to understand traditional indigenous thinking

Fantastic audiobook. Smart, simple and easy for almost anyone to understand. Very vital concepts a are talked about in this book.
It is not an overstatement to say that indigenous wisdom could help humanity create a new world society.
No one system is ideal, but indigenous social (in indigenous thinking all systems are always linked : social , economic, family, community, ecological, spiritual, medical) is integral and filled with wise practicallity that aims at living in balance with Existence. It is rich, up to date , and filled with life

I am glad Tyson Yunkaporta didn’t hire an actor to read the book. Love his freshness and wit.

It is a smart and unpretentious. Needed practical viewpoint for our world today.

REQUIRED READING for every human on the planet

Tyson Yunkaporta's voice is soothing and wise and honest and brave.
He holds the knowledge of many ancient grandfathers and grandmothers inside of him.
And he generously shares many of those stories in this book.
ALL WE NEED TO DO IS LISTEN!

This is an important book

I read/listened to this book three times in a row to help me understand it deeply. Totally enjoyable and engrossing each time. It contains lucid wisdom and delivers a hard smack to the current, unsustainable global order. The author makes a cogent case that aboriginal thinking can help humanity find a way forward through the multiple crises we have created.

Well read and necessary subject matter

I absolutely loved Tyson’s performance and it was definitely worth listening to the audio of these words being delivered from the voice of the author himself.
Not only did I learn a lot of great stories and pieces of wisdom of the aboriginal people of Australia, but I also got to hear how to weave the meaning of them together with modern context.
I would say this book should be a must read for all people, especially young people. We need to learn to incorporate knowledge from each other’s indigenous sustainable systems, or rather their systematic ways of being and thinking on how to live in harmony with the surrounding world.

Also there was a wonderful guided meditation/visualization of sorts towards the end with the hearth fire energy and that was great too!

I will be listening to this more than once!

#1 fav audiobook for 2 book clubs

Note: I am an agnostic scientist and love books. This is my top #1 fav recommended.

We held 2 book 📚clubs on “sand talk” and almost did a third in a row before we started to read other books:). Multiple reads through and it still solid.

From yarning conversations, relationship with time as a non-linear process, the recognition that some buildings built today will slide into the water, the emu, the other animals that symbolize keeping ego in check, the stone fights where nobody wins, the non-nuclear relationships. The humility of the author, the oration style, the reflection of society. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
