Historia
Iceland, 1956. Fourteen-year-old Lára decides to spend the summer working for a couple on the small island of Videy, just off the coast of Reykjavík. In early August, the girl disappears without a trace. Time passes, and the mystery becomes Iceland‘s most infamous unsolved case. What happened to the young girl? Is she still alive? Did she leave the island, or did something happen to her there? Thirty years later, as the city of Reykjavík celebrates its 200th anniversary, journalist Valur Robertsson begins his own investigation into Lára's case.

Una wants nothing more than to teach, but she has been unable to secure steady employment in Reykjavík. Her savings are depleted, her love life is nonexistent, and she cannot face another winter staring at the four walls of her shabby apartment. Celebrating Christmas and ringing in 1986 in the remote fishing hamlet of Skálar seems like a small price to pay for a chance to earn some teaching credentials and get her life back on track.

Historia
When a young woman is found brutally murdered in her own apartment with an intricate pattern of lines carved into her face, Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. Soon, they establish a link between the victim, Julie Stender, and her landlady, Esther de Laurenti, who’s a bit too fond of drink and the host of raucous dinner parties with her artist friends. Esther also turns out to be a budding novelist - and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the unfinished mystery she’s writing, the link between fiction and real life grows.

Resumen del Editor
The fourth installment in the international best-selling Dark Iceland series
Over a million copies sold worldwide
With a stalker on the loose and the town of Siglufjörður in quarantine, a child goes missing, as Icelandic police officer Ari Thór Arason investigates a cold case of a mysterious death on an isolated fjord....
"Bitingly contemporary in setting and tone." (Express)
"A modern take on an Agatha Christie-style mystery, as twisty as any slalom...." (Ian Rankin)
1955. Two young couples move to the uninhabited, isolated fjord of Hedinsfjörður. Their stay ends abruptly when one of the women meets her death in mysterious circumstances. The case is never solved. Fifty years later an old photograph comes to light, and it becomes clear that the couples may not have been alone on the fjord after all....
In nearby Siglufjörður, young policeman Ari Thór tries to piece together what really happened that fateful night, in a town where no one wants to know, where secrets are a way of life. He’s assisted by Ísrún, a news reporter in Reykjavik, who is investigating an increasingly chilling case of her own. Things take a sinister turn when a child goes missing in broad daylight. With a stalker on the loose, and the town of Siglufjörður in quarantine, the past might just come back to haunt them.
Haunting, frightening and complex, Rupture is a dark and atmospheric thriller from one of Iceland’s foremost crime writers.
"Traditional and beautifully finessed…morally more equivocal than most traditional whodunnits, and it offers alluring glimpses of darker, and infinitely more threatening horizons." (Independent)
"A distinctive blend of Nordic Noir and Golden Age detective fiction…economical and evocative prose, as well as some masterful prestidigitation." (Laura Wilson, Guardian)
"A classic crime story seen through a uniquely Icelandic lens…first rate and highly recommended." (Lee Child)
Design by David Baldeosingh Rotstein

Iceland, 1956. Fourteen-year-old Lára decides to spend the summer working for a couple on the small island of Videy, just off the coast of Reykjavík. In early August, the girl disappears without a trace. Time passes, and the mystery becomes Iceland‘s most infamous unsolved case. What happened to the young girl? Is she still alive? Did she leave the island, or did something happen to her there? Thirty years later, as the city of Reykjavík celebrates its 200th anniversary, journalist Valur Robertsson begins his own investigation into Lára's case.

Historia
Una wants nothing more than to teach, but she has been unable to secure steady employment in Reykjavík. Her savings are depleted, her love life is nonexistent, and she cannot face another winter staring at the four walls of her shabby apartment. Celebrating Christmas and ringing in 1986 in the remote fishing hamlet of Skálar seems like a small price to pay for a chance to earn some teaching credentials and get her life back on track.

Good mystery, but lots of diversions
The book had an interesting mystery or, rather, a couple mysteries. However, one of the mysteries was a complete sideline with effectively nothing to do with the main story. That was odd.
It also remains frustrating that the books are NOT in the order they claim to be. Book 2 is NOT book 2; book 3 is not 3, etc. I can't believe that no one cares enough to fix that.

Favorite Ari Þór Arason novel thus far.
Great plot, characters, setting. Narrator Leighton Pugh is excellent.

This book seemed familiar
I think this book may have been published earlier under a different name? As I listen to this novel it sounded so familiar and I was always one step ahead like I had heard it before.

Rupture
After listening to three of these boos and then this one, the difference in performer was so noticeable and a little jarring. His accent sounded almost British … the earlier performer was just so perfect, why change?
Anyway, overall another great listen. And it’s on to the next!

The best Dark Iceland book yet
I’m reading them in original Icelandic publishing order and this is definitely the best yet. Great story, great twists, lots of atmospheric moments and character development. Excited for the next one!

Totally unexpected ending
The only issue I had was Ari Thor's girlfriend's name being mispronounced repeatedly. It is a different narrator but he kept changing the pronouncation of the name
