Higher Stakes and Tension

This was an absolutely fantastic audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job! I also enjoyed this a lot more than vol 1 plot wise. Warning, this is horror, so there are some pretty horrific things that happen and I’ll touch on just a bit of that.

I thought Flum was pretty strong with her Reversal ability and cursed sword, but Dein was an even more horrible person than I imagined, and unfortunately very clever. The length he went to corner Flum and try to kill her chilled me to the bone. Luckily, Flum wasn’t an ordinary opponent, and she wasn’t as alone as he thought.

Eterna was a great addition to the cast and her magic was a huge help in protecting Flum and Milkit. Her teasing Milkit and Flum about her relationship was also great. I also really liked the addition of Ink, a mysterious child whose eyes are sewn shut, and who’s run away from her ‘home.’ This also brings out Eterna’s softer side, which is nice to see.

The plot escalated to show the corruption of the church, and make more sense of what we learned in the previous volume about the demons not seeming like the real enemy. And Ink’s ‘home’ played a lot into that.

That said, my absolute highlight of the volume were the interactions between Flum and Dein. I loved seeing Flum’s tenacity at some incredibly dire odds and their final fight went to some very interesting places. I hated Dein, but he made a very good villain.

I also continue to adore the relationship between Flum and Milkit, who are like cute blushing teenagers around each other. They’re not ready to admit their feelings, but you can tell they’re incredibly precious to each other. And though Milkit doesnt have Flum’s strength or an ability, she is her heart and the one that supports her in her darkest times.

I’m excited to see their relationship continue to develop romantically and I’m interested to see what happens next.

Second Title Stands Strong

The story continues here in the second novel. And it’s still good thankfully! We meet new characters—all important to the story. The settings stays in the city this time. Flum and Milkit’s bond is once again the core of the story—as it should be—as the team investigates the church.

Great action scenes, unexpected visits, and mysteries abound here. Shoutout once again to the narrator! I am quite excited to continue the story in the third volume.

I definitely needed that laugh, and that scene delivered, amazing, more so with Ink being the one to catch the yet and Eternas raised, horrified, disgusted voice, pure gold.

Mystery and revenge

Great story that keeps you engaged and a unique power set that gives the main character room to grow and become truly powerful. Looking forward to the next 2 releases!

I thought... maybe

The first book was shaky so I thought it would get better with experience but no. Maybe this is just bad translation but I dont think I spent more then a few moments not annoyed by the random plot inserts and exceptionally dumb decisions forced on the characters just to work in another really bad story arc.
