Resumen del Editor

Agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock must protect the life of a young political speechwriter in this New York Times bestseller in Catherine Coulter’s FBI Thriller series.

A senior speechwriter for the governor of New York, Becca Matlock is at the top of her professional game when she receives a disturbing phone call that threatens everything: “Stop sleeping with the governor or I’ll kill him.” The thing is, she’s not sleeping with her boss, but that fact doesn’t stop the calls from the man who refers to himself as her “boyfriend.”

When her stalker murders an innocent in New York City and the governor is shot in the neck, Becca comes under suspicion and takes off for the sanctuary of Riptide, an isolated community on the coast of Maine. But she soon finds herself at even greater risk...

FBI special agents Savich and Sherlock are in Riptide to help out an old friend of Savich’s father, and soon become embroiled in Becca’s deadly situation. But as enemies new and old circle closer, time is running out for them all.

Listen to another FBI Thriller.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The suspense builds and with it a romance between Becca and Adam, her main protector. Coulter has penned another fun read. The characters are well drawn and act plausibly." ( Library Journal)

Excellent story

Story was too notch, even if slightly predictable. Still thoroughly enjoyable. Narrator was good, but insufficient deep range to pull off all of the male characters. Probably could use two voice actors, a male and female. Other than that, it was outstanding!

not a favorite

I was optimistic going in but I lost interest over time. I did not enjoy the "love triangle". And the narrator made the character sound 57 and not 27. I'm hopeful for the next book in the series. I enjoy Savich and Sherlock

Great storyline!

Love this series, but the male voices, for the most part, are very annoying. It’s difficult to tell most of the nasal male voices apart.

Great, Great story.

This was one fun thrillride. The best part is you get two fantastic storyline in one book. I am a big fan of Catherine Coulter's books. Once again she doesn't disappoint.

Riptide

Again, another revisit and this time in audio and this one had me on the edge of my seat. Becca Matlock is being stalked but the police to not believe her. She is a speech writer for the governor of New York and her stalker accuses her of sleeping with the governor. After a bombing and then the death of her mother she escapes to the town of Riptide. This is a small town where her friend from college lives with his son along with other characters who keep this story moving. There is where Adam finds Becca. Adam is sent to protect her by her father who she thinks died when she was very young. So many twists and turns and crazy psycho stalker it is not over until the very end.

Good story but horrible narrator.

The story line kept my attention, but the narration was horrible! I thought about quitting because of the narrator.

Extremely frightening villain, powerful story

the evil antagonist in this story was very scary and I white-knuckled it through some of the parts. I was frustrated in the middle because the same thing happened again and again. the last villan what predictable. overall an intense engaging story.

Good

Story:
Not terribly realistic (I hope)... The male and female main character just sort of end up together. Not a huge lead up to that... Maybe I just didn't like the lead male character. I'm not really sure why the lead female character didn't just throw him out when he showed up out of nowhere and wouldn't tell her why. Get real. I liked seeing Savich and Sherlocke again. Always good to visit with those characters.
Narration:
I've listened to other books done by this narrator and she was always good - if not great. Not here. Perhaps this was an early attempt for her? She made Lacey Sherlocke sound like a not so bright 12yo and seemed to take seriously some of the drier wit in the book, Overall, not the worst I've heard, but certainly not the best effort from this narrator
Overall:
Sort of a mixed review. I like the story, I really did... it's just that the characters felt forced somehow and I felt myself getting angry at too many points on behalf of the main female character. There was a lot of macho/chauvinism in the book...Like how many tropes can they stick in a book? Woman asks for help - labeled crazy. Woman in authority seems to hate her for just being female. Stalker. Creeper. Macho jerk leading man that won't tell pertinent information. Absentee father. It's just... too much. It was a decent idea and I'll listen to the next book though.
**The early books in this series were originally written in the mid-90s and early aughts, I believe? The amount of female abuse triggers should actually be noted.
