Resumen del Editor

This is the final book of the trilogy - a fat monstrous volume of pure undiluted scarecrow terror.

Maddy and Wilfred, Earl and Wendy Joe Joel go toe-to-toe with an unbelievable army of scarecrows. And let me tell you...these aren't your granddaddy's scarecrows.

Give this a listen.

If you are a fan of good old-school "there's-something-weird-going-on-out-there-in-them-woods" kind of horror - the kind of horror made famous by novels like Stephen King's Salem's Lot or Stan Winston's Pumpkinhead then you will definitely enjoy Tatterdemon.

Hell is coming. And it is dressed in rags....

Payoff!

My favorite of the series, mostly because it's technically one book. In all honesty, I'd just grab the omnibus edition. It's a great story, well-done overall.

Creepy trilogy!

Great conclusion to the trilogy. I definitely recommend listening to the books in order though or you'll have no idea what's going on. Awesome old school horror by Steve Vernon and a great narration by Rick Gregory.

When Scarecrows Attack!

This is the third and final installment of the Tatterdemon Trilogy, and the best of the three. It is also the longest by far. While the first two books established the characters and setting, Book 3 is the payoff, and I think that's why I enjoyed it more than the others. None of the characters are likeable in any way, and all the gore and shock material was a bit unpleasant. But while Book 3 still had those elements, its focus was on the scarecrow monsters finally tearing up the town. I enjoy a good, straightforward monster rampage much more than midget eating fat ladies, hoodoo rituals, and rapist mailmen.

Rick Gregory does a good job with the narration. I've listened to a number of works he's narrated and find him to be remarkably consistent.

I do think if you choose to listen to the Tatterdemon Trilogy, you should grab the omnibus. While there are three parts, they are really just one story, and it makes more sense to just grab the whole thing together.

I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Great read.

Not my favourite of the three but still a good read. This one was so much more bloody and gory than the rest, plus there's more horrific things happening, it was a little stomach churning at times.

The plot really ramps up in this edition and doesn't let up. Not all the characters survive but that is to be expected, especially with this series!!! Fast paced, entertaining... if a little icky, this was a great series and I must check out more from this author.

Rick Gregory is easy to listen to and tells the story well. I enjoyed his performance.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Best in the trilogy

I'm not sure if it was an improvement over the other books in the series or if I had gotten invested in the characters, but this was probably my favorite from this series.

Crazy as a Madhouse Painting of God

The third and final installment of the Tatterdemon Trilogy. The series is best heard in order so if you haven’t listened to book one or two you need to go get those quickly, you will want to listen to those all in one sitting so make sure you plan accordingly. Much like the first two stories, I really enjoyed Vernon’s writing style and love his analogies and descriptions. The story is twisted, but when coupled with Vernon’s ability to craft a sentence that not only tells you a story, but makes you feel the story, you walk away from this feeling like you personally survived the Tatterdemon. You may need to shower to wash the blood and sweat off you.

I felt like the first two stories were a build up to the action. They told about the inhabitants of the town and laid the groundwork for the battle that is coming. While those were heavy on the character development and rising action, this one is mainly all plot driven finally arriving at the climax and resolution. The first two stories didn’t seem to really have much of a direction other than something evil was brewing. This one has a clear direction and a defined plot that I don’t know that anyone would have been able to guess how it was going to play out. This really became an all-out battle and nobody is safe.

I really think I preferred the inane tales of the inhabitants more than the Tatterdemon plot itself. I don’t mean that that part wasn’t enjoyable, I just really enjoyed hearing about how crazy all the inhabitants were. I found myself wanting to hear more about their unusual lives and the crazy antics they get into outside of their dealings with the demon. What I wouldn’t do to roll up to the bar with those guys once a week for a few hours. They all were so unique and I quickly became engrossed in who they were and why they were the way there were. Vernon really knows how to write round characters. I honestly could listen to another three books of purely character interaction, especially if Marvin is included.

These types of stories must be written with Rick Gregory’s voice in mind. He voices these stories perfectly and provides the right amount of grittiness for the characters. His voice really helps set the mood and just rips you off your seat and drags you into the story. There isn’t another narrator I think of who can voice this better.

Great Conclusion

This was a wonderful ending to a fun trilogy. I agree with another reviewer that you have to be sure to read these in order. This is not one to skip around with in reading. I really loved the narrator as he added so much to the story. Look forward to more from this author.
