Adriana Locke
From USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke comes a forbidden workplace romance between a fiery new hire and her smoldering boss.
“I had to sneeze.”
I should’ve taken her insurance information and driven off like any reasonable CEO with places to be would.
She crashed into my car, for heaven’s sake. Because she had to sneeze.
What did I do? I didn’t get in my car and drive away if that’s what you’re thinking.
Nope. I stuck around. I could suggest I stayed because she needed help, but the truth? She was really, really hot.
We became fast friends. Then friends with benefits. Before I knew it, we were involved in an illicit office romance that had me fumbling through a drawerful of panties to get a Post-It.
It was supposed to be easy—a fling, if you will. A dashing millionaire hero (adjusts tie) and a beautiful (stubborn, frustratingly independent, hell-on-wheels) damsel in distress. (Don’t tell her I said that.)
It wasn’t supposed to be forever, but we did want a happy ending. (Pun intended.) We could’ve made it work, too.
But one of us overcomplicated things with the L-word. And the other? They omitted a truth that changed everything.

Shaye is Oliver's exact opposite. She is chaos walking. She doesn't come from a warm loving family like the Masons. She is up to her ears in debt that isn't hers, and no matter what she does she can't seem to keep her head above water. She is kind, capable, and when it comes to her job she is amazingly organized. When it comes to her personal life she is a hot mess. Like Oliver, she has a hard time trusting people, because people in her life betrayed and abused her trust. She second guesses kind gestures as ways to control her because she doesn't know how real relationships are supposed to work. When happenstance puts her in the position to work as Oliver's Executive Assistant, a job she rocks at, she isn't sure she should take it. She needs the job desperately, but she isn't sure working for a guy she's super attracted to is going to work out well.
As Oliver and Shaye get to know each other, their relationship blossoms. They both have alot of baggage to work through before they can really move past their problems and trust issues. Both characters are wonderful and they go through alot of emotional turmoil before the end. Oliver has alot to deal with, he's got stress from work, his relationship with Shaye, and Adriana throws another twist into the story with issues with his dad who starts acting out of character which just adds to the list of reasons he doesn't trust people and things he needs to fix. We get a healthy dose of Mason family in this book as they are trying to figure out what is going on with their parents, and as always we have Mama Siggy being graceful as always. She tackles everything with wisdom and grace, while being a strong matriarch. Shaye has an awesome support system in the few friends she does have in her found family of Nate and Lisbeth, they love her for who she is and support her no matter what she chooses. They give her advice and suggestions, but they are always on Team Shaye.
I loved this! I had a hard time putting it down, but that has been true of all of the books I've read about the Masons! This has some decently steamy scenes. You can read this as a standalone, but I don't know why you wouldn't want to read all of the books because they are awesome and I highly recommend them! I cannot wait for Wade's book!
The narrators on this were wonderful. The both did a great job brining Oliver, Shaye, and the rest of the Masons to life. I was able to tell each of the characters apart and when we switched from Shaye to Oliver's perspective there was consistency between the personalities and accents that the two narrators used. I will be checking out other audiobooks they've narrated.
Great opposites attract couple

Let me start by listing what I loved in this book: the meet cute, the brothers, Siggy, Rosie and Wade, and the epilogue. With that being said, as each book in this series has released, I’ve been desperately hopeful that the series would return to the caliber of Restraint. I love love loved that book. Reputation was good, Reckless was good, Relentless was not anything that I hoped it would be. I always try to keep my reviews strictly about the content, so bear with me.
Shay’s actual age in no way aligned with the way she was written. I understand that she had some emotional baggage (more on that later), but she was immature & one dimensional. While I did feel like the chemistry between her & Oliver was genuine, I stopped caring about them midway through the book.
Oliver was mostly good, but that whole thing about the flowers was ridiculous. There was so much melodrama that added nothing to the story & only served to keep snapping me out of my listening.
There were some plot points included but not fleshed out & to me, were completely unnecessary: Shay’s previous relationship & all the things that entailed, the thing with the Mason boys’ father & his horrendous treatment of his family (Siggy deserves so much better- this whole scenario enraged me).
This book is almost insta-love (which I’m a big fan of), but it was so fast-paced, I felt like I got none of the relationship development. Their first I love you made me roll my eyes because I was just thinking “how in the world?”
Of course, there’s the office romance element, another trope I really love. In this respect, Relentless felt like a watered down imitation of Switch (Graham Landry is my husband). I’m all for cameos between families in different series by an author, but I feel like as the Masons have progressed, they’ve become more and more like knockoffs of the Landry family. That makes me so, so sad because I love these boys. Truly, I adore them. That’s why I hoped for so much more.
The author has pushed the release dates of the past two books in this series & has done the same with Wade’s book. I’m not hopeful for his story at all because even having moved dates, the quality of the books just isn’t there. I will absolutely read his story because I’m committed to the series, but after that, I will be taking a long break from Adriana Locke’s work. I’m just so disappointed and frustrated & I hate writing critical reviews.

Wen Ross, Amanda Stribling were so much fun to listen to. I always enjoy Ross but this is my first time listening to Stribling and I loved her performance. Her voice was so expressive and genuine, she was the perfect Shaye. Ross and Stribling worked so well together that I was easily lost in their storytelling. I loved this fun, emotional and steamy story so much, it is everything I crave and so much more.
Sweet, Emotional, and Steamy Romance!
