Resumen del Editor

Mutants, maniacs, murderers - nothing will stop Kale from finding Hanna Shaw, daughter of the woman who raised him as her own; a woman who died under his watch. A relic of forgotten genetic technology, he must overcome a populace that hates his kind to find a sister he’s never met before he’s hunted down.

All the while, Hanna struggles to stop an old enemy on the secluded planet Kolonos. Her Hub marines must make a desperate play to push back a Totec rebellion before they can unleash a weapon that will tear down the very foundations of human civilization. If the “siblings” hope to save lives, they will need to bridge the gaps in their collective past before it’s too late.

On this lonely desert world, the fate of all will be decided by the will of two.

Lots of action and adventure

This is a world in which genetic technology has wreaked havoc. More than just technology has been created and will be unleashed upon this world. It is up to Kale to find Hannah so together they can stop the destruction before it’s too late.
Eric Edward Langley, the author, has built a world with a collection of unique characters – most of which are an unsavory lot in life – murderers, deranged fanatics, and more. The plot twists are well done, and the dialog moves the story forward at a steady quick pace.

The narrator, Andrew Pond gives a smooth performance drawing the listener into the story captivating them. The characters have unique voices which further the story and with his pitch, Pond gives life to each character. His pauses and tones were appropriate not only to the action occurring but also to the character.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was well done.

A good start to something better?

I received a free review copy of this audio book, at my request, and am voluntarily leaving this unbiased review.

This is an interesting book, about a future where body modification creates a horrible and deadly disease. However, even after the procedure is outlawed and the people killed or isolated, the disease never fully goes away.

The main character is one of these people, living on the fringe of society. We get a brief glimpse of this galactic civilization, in the beginning of the book. However, it is quickly pushed away, and the main character is off on an adventure.

This is a bit of a shame, as the beginning of the book has a city on another planet, night clubs, crime lord warehouses, and safe houses. It's exciting and different. But after this section, the settings are bland ships and dusty, barren worlds and tunnels. All of the settings and environments are bland, not really well developed, and predictable.

The other problem with the book is the characters lack depth and character arc's. There is a main character, a couple secondary characters and a bunch of background characters/obstacles. The main character lacks a character arc. He is marginally wiser in the end, but that is debatable, but he doesn't feel to have grown. The major secondary characters are the same. They experience a sequence of events, but no one changes or grows, because of them. The background characters are no different. They simply provide motivation for some characters or events. Or province an obstacle to another characters goals.

The whole book feels like just a sequence of events, rather than a satisfying story. That would be OK for maybe a shorter, or funnier, or more action packed book. But this story is supposed to have suspense and action. However, it doesn't have enough of it to keep the pace quick enough for the lacking substance not to be noticeable.

Having said that, this is a great idea. Also, this book plants the seeds for a more in depth series. I think i can see where the author is going with the concept and the potential is there for a gripping story, even if this first book didn't quite live up to it.

The narration, by Andrew Pond, is fairly well done. He does a passable female voice and can differentiate his voice enough for a conversation with multiple characters. A little of the dialog was spoken a little awkwardly, but over all, good.

All in all, this is an interesting book with great potential. The characters are a bit flat and the settings of the end are bland, but it has the potential to be the start of a great series. The voice narration was overall well done. I see a good series growing from this.

+++spoilers+++

The only issue I had, plot wise, was the complete lack of discipline in the military. They behaved more like a big school football team, than a military. Orders were questioned, people refused to do things, with out being convinced by officers, everyone in charge had to explain their every decision to everyone underneath them.

It was distracting...
