Larry Chambers was still new to Vietnam in early 1969 when the LRRPs of the 101st Airborne Division became L Company, 75th (Rangers). But his unit's mission stayed the same: act as the eyes and ears of the 101st deep in the dreaded A Shau Valley - where the NVA ruled. Relentless thick fog frequently made fighter bombers useless in the A Shau, and the enemy had furnished the nearby mountaintops with antiaircraft machine guns to protect the massive trail network that snaked through it. The Eyes of the Eagle is an accurate, exciting look at the recon soldier's war. There are none better.

Another good Vietnam book.
I read the book by Gary Linderer and this book covers some of the same unit's experiences. The only downside is that it is only two hours long, so don't spend a lot of money for it. The reader's voice is also not very good, but it isn't terrible.

Finally, a good book!
I loved this book because it's a first hand account of a Long Range Patrol soldier in Vietnam. It isn't some liberal writer's third hand account. It isn't a dry overarching history of the Vietnam War. It is the very interesting story of a very interesting job.

A glimpse into a special group of men!
My father was a Recondo trained LRRP who served two tours in Nam and I’ve always wondered what he had went through. This book gave me a good idea of what he had done.

Recondo LRRPs
I liked this book and had read this very story in the three books of Recon called Six Silent Men, which I would recommend Audible to have in their store. They are very very good books as I served in a Recon Co. in Viet Nam.
