Historia
A mix of memoir, spiritual teachings, and practices from Afro American traditions, Jambalaya offers a fascinating introduction to the world of nature-based spirituality, goddess worship, and rituals from the African diaspora. More relevant today than it was 36 years ago, the wisdom of Jambalaya reconnects us to the natural and spiritual world, and the centuries-old traditions of African ancestors, whose voices echo through time, guiding us and blending with our own.

One of my favorite highlights was learning about the history and background of hoodoo as a spiritual practice and its connection to African American culture. The author did a fantastic job of presenting a nuanced and respectful perspective on the cultural and social significance of hoodoo, and it was so interesting to learn about its roots in African spiritual traditions and its adaptation and transformation in the context of slavery, oppression, and resistance.
Another highlight that I found incredibly valuable was the section on rootwork. The author provides a practical and informative guide to the different types of roots and herbs used in hoodoo, as well as their properties, correspondences, and applications. I was especially impressed by the clear and concise instructions on how to prepare and use various types of roots and herbs, such as baths, powders, oils, and mojo bags. I can't wait to try some of these techniques in my own practice!
Overall, my main takeaway from this audiobook is that hoodoo is a powerful and transformative practice that has the potential to change your life in profound ways. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, this book offers valuable knowledge, inspiration, and guidance on your journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth.
I also want to mention that the narrator did an amazing job of bringing this book to life. Their voice was clear, engaging, and easy to listen to, and they really captured the spirit and energy of the text. I would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone interested in learning more about hoodoo and how it can enrich your life!
