Resumen del Editor

From the author of Limitless comes Receptor, an irresistible thriller that reveals the origins of MDT-48 and the consequences of unlocking the human mind.

On a Friday evening in 1953, Madison Avenue ad executive Ned Sweeney enjoys a cocktail in the apartment of a strange and charismatic man he met hours earlier. Ned doesn't know it, but he has just become a participant in Project MK-Ultra, a covert, CIA-run study of mind-control techniques. The experience transforms Ned, pulling him away from his wife and young son and into the inner circles of the richest and most powerful people of his day. In a matter of months, he is dead.

It is a tragedy Ned's family struggles to understand, then tries to forget...but some skeletons refuse to stay buried. More than 60 years later, Ned's grandson Ray is introduced to a retired government official who claims to know the details of Ned's life and death. Ray is prepared to dismiss the encounter, until he discovers that the now-elderly man once worked for the CIA. Ray digs deeper and begins to question everything as he uncovers rumors of a mysterious "smart drug" - a fabled black-market cognitive enhancer called MDT-48.

Even better than the original

It is a great story, and read well. I think I liked it better than Limitless, and I hope he writes another!

Interesting on multiple levels

I actually liked this book better than the first book in the series. Represented from different points of view, as well as different points in time, it made for an interesting tale and an interesting way to tell the story.

excellent book i highly recommend

I highly recommend this book even if you watch the TV series and the movie this is nothing at all like the TV series or the movie there is only a few very brief references to the movie and nothing to the series The end leaves it open for a 3rd normal or they just let you make it up your own mind that is frustrating lol But other the map this is a wonderful book that I would recommend to anybody

Could t stop once I started. Basically 2 stories in 1, and they were both written and told excellently

I am ready for a third installment.

This book series lights up my imagination, and Receptor may even be better than Limitless. I have become a fan of Alan Glynn's fast paced writing style and will be seeking out other works next.

Great story

What if someone was smart enough to figure out what we know now back in 1953? And what if that intelligence could come from a pill? This book is a bit like Forest Gump interacting with some historical events but as a genius.

Great follow up to the original

This is a great follow up to the original book, taking it in a bold new direction. I was happy to be in that world of MDT-48 and smart drugs again.

Certainly a better sequel than that network TV show that got canned. This book really examines what it would mean if a "smart drug" like this existed and how both individuals and society at large would react.

Good... cluncky writing, but brilliant idea

I first started with the movie Limitless. The book Limitless, it was darker and not as engaging or hopeful. I am happy Glynn wrote a sequel of sorts and set up another with the ending here. The idea behind Receptor is great, but its foiled like the book Limitless by the writing style.

First of all, this is two stories in one. A man taking NDT in the 1950's and his grandson learning of his history in present day. The chapters swing back and forth from one to the other. The writing is slow moving, which I didn't mind, but it lacks tension. The characters don't grow very much either even though they go through life altering metaphysical events. They remain flat.

All in all, I would recommend Receptor, its worth picking up for the ideas at its core.

Ludicrous story line...waste of time.

If you choose to consider the possibility of super human performance drugs, this book may interest you. Clearly we have mind warping drugs that can put you on a path of inane behavior and nonsensical acts. But finding a drug that takes an ordinary person and turns that person into a super human genius with over the top cognitive power falls well short of my gullibility index.
cheers, Ken

A disappointment

Limitless is one of my favorite stories. Well written very intriguing. This was confusing and not near as exciting.
