Resumen del Editor

There are qualities we all yearn to experience in our lives - peace, simplicity, grace, connection, clarity. Yet these qualities evade us, because each of them arises from an experience of wholeness, and we live in a culture that enforces divisions within each of us.

In Radical Wholeness, Philip Shepherd shows the countless ways in which we are persuaded to separate from the body and live in the head. Disconnected from the body's intelligence, we also disconnect from the wholeness of the present. This schism within us is the primary source of stress not just in our personal lives, but for the systems of the planet.

Drawing from neuroscience, anthropology, physics, the arts, myth, personal stories, and his experiences helping people around the world to experience wholeness, Philip Shepherd illuminates what true wholeness means and offers practices designed to help listeners soften into the intelligence of the body. Radical Wholeness is a call to action: to recover wholeness and experience a new way of being.

Everything about this book was extraordinary!

I enjoyed every minute of listening to Phillips’s voice. His care and concern for us and this subject is evident in all of the varied aspects of ‘voice’.

And the message: That we’re thinking with a portion of our beings rather than thinking with our entire beings.

Philip begins with an examination of what is modern day culture for many of us: “presently consumer based, patrifocal, reductionistic, technologically driven, information-obsessed, and individualistic.”

How our culture effects us: “of all the lessons we learn in the public school system, the primary one is to subdue the energies of the body and maximize the facility of the head for manipulating verbal and symbolic information”

And a great deal of research of several native peoples who possess more than ‘5’ senses and think from a place deep within their bodies.

I’ll listen again. Philip included exercises and meditations for bringing our entire being into our thought processes, a gift I will always appreciate!

An insightful and intelligent book

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to live with a greater sense of presence and embrace wholeness. Shepherd integrates and synthesizes knowledge from anthropology, philosophy, history, and science in his exploration of embodied presence.

Incredible!

No exaggeration: This book blew my mind within the first chapter. I read a lot of books on spirituality and psychology, and most of them offer information that is lovely but not all that unique or surprising. This book provided a truly unique perspective, with insights from anthropology, psychology, philosophy, and spirituality all combined with neurophysiology, to describe wholeness in its true form.

My kind of Woo-Woo

Loved it. I would call this book a kind of practical mysticism, and I think Philip Shepherd articulates very well a persistent disconnect we moderns have to a sense of wholeness.

Balanced, grounded and informative

Loved the content. Good examples from both science, culture and experience. Occasionally I got lost with too much detail and felt like I needed to relisten to fully grasp.

Grounding

I listen to this book whenever I feel like I'm getting a little lost, it grounds me and physically heals and gathers parts of myself that have scattered or feel fragmented. It settles me back into my core, hydrates my cells until I begin to feel the sense of boyency again that my inner intelligence recognizes as deep truth.
Forever grateful, thank you for bringing this into the world Philip!

An important book to those open to its message

This book is not for everyone, I see many reviews from people who would be precise examples of what Shepard critiques. I took it more as a call to strive for looking at things in a more wholistic way (duh), but also it helped motivate me to go further on the path from disconnecting from toxic media and culture whenever possible and staying as much attuned to the present monet rather than living in the past or the future.

I was recommended this book on a forum that's dedicated toward meditation, so I thought this book might have some direct relationship to it, but essentially the whole book is "meditative" in a way. It definitely talks about presence a lot, which is a main theme of meditation, but it also critiques some of the meditation schools as being merely concerned with "self help."

There's a lot in here that will sound like nonsense to those who are unfamiliar with meditation and Eastern spirituality. Shephard does pay homage to science in talking about brain networks and quantum mechanics, but I'm guessing that experts in these fields might think he is simplifying things to an extreme at best.

I'm a science-oriented guy who isn't spiritual, but I've been meditating for eight years and so a lot of what was in this book spoke to me on a level that was not purely "intellectual" and I assume would do so for anyone who is somewhat receptive to the message and not resistant to anything that wasn't based in huge randomized controlled meta analyses and/or officially sanctioned by large international scientific bodies. If you have that purist materialist point of view and believe that everything is just particles, that science either can answer everything or will given a little more time, then this book probably will do very little for you.

That being said, I do feel like the book could have been a little shorter, a bit less repetitive, and perhaps introduced ideas about the "pelvic bowl" much earlier. It is constantly referred to from very early in the book, but isn't really explained in depth until really the very end of it. The exercises seem interesting but it would have been a lot more convenient if these were provided in a separate pdf, Then again, this book was free with my audible subscription, so I can't complain too much!

In any case, I found a profound and motivating look at how I live my own life and from the reviews it sounds like I'm not alone. Looking forward to looking into more that Shepherd has written as well as his YouTube channel.

WHAT NOW PHILIP??

Can you believe I stumbled on this book in my sleep?? My first time leaving my audiobook on and falling asleep so it automatically played another book included in the membership that was in the same category of books I read. So when I woke up I was LEGIT NERVOUS because I couldn’t believe my mind was being stimulated as I slept. So that day I decided to see what my mind was up to all night. Radical wholeness has been quite an experience. I find myself thinking about getting more reading done and there is an uneasiness that I battle with. ‘WHAT NOW PHILIP??’ best describes the guilt that comes over me from having an intimately understanding of the many ways we disconnect and contribute to it. But by the time he brings me full circle into the present my guilt transforms into gratitude. I am grateful for this work and it’s wisdom. I have the universe to thank for delivering it to me personally.
