What an outstanding backstory

Whatever your thoughts on Neo and Roman prior to the novel, the opinions will become incredibly more positive if you were to listen to or read the story. What were originally characters only beloved for their looks and personas are made far more in depth by going into their histories. While I was more excited to learn about Neo going into the novel, Roman's side certainly captivated me more, though I can't say I'm complaining about either side at all. Neo's inner monologue works fantastically well in written format, and EC Myers did amazingly at capturing Roman's personality. There's a slight loose end between the novel's ending and a situation in the show proper, though not enough of one to detract from the quality of the story, or to make me think it can't be reasonably filled in through context clues or CRWBY statements. With everything that's happening in present-day RWBY show proper, this story was a bit refreshing with its more down to earth feel, which isn't to criticize present-day show proper at all since it's the best it's been thus far, it's just that it's nice to have a change.
I still feel like the decision to put Neo's origins into a novel is odd. Everyone who watches the show would agree she's the biggest mystery, but not everyone who watches consumes the side content like the novels. I don't know that the show will go over anything in the novel, seeing as how Myers wasn't allowed to do other things in the previous novels (i.e. a good luck Semblance) since the show was going to cover it. As much as I loved the story, that's a slight annoyance and worry I have, though not enough to detract from the overall quality as is.

this book is so amazingly done. it made me fall in love with these characters to the poin that I wish they had done more with them in the anime series.
SPOLIER FOR ANIME:
This book also makes my heart break when I see how Roman is portrayed in the series, lacking the depth this book gave him,and I hate how he dies. he deserves a better send off than that.
these two underrated and underused characters of RWBY shone like a beautiful sun in this book. I wish there was more.
Made me love them!!!
