A storm is coming...

After their strange mission in the desert, Coco, Fox, Velvet, and Yatsuhashi are back at Shade Academy, doing some “extracurricular” work to track down The Crown, a mysterious force that’s snatching up people with powerful semblances.

The job should be easier with Team SSSN by their side, but The Crown continues to evade them. Out of options and worried that a bigger plot is in motion, CFVY and SSSN notify Theodore, the Headmaster of Shade Academy, but Theodore has problems of his own.

Troubled by the disasters at Beacon and Haven Academies and struggling to support the flood of refugee students, Theodore declares a new initiation - including the formation of new teams to better unite the student body. Amid mounting tension at the school, CFVY and SSSN must contend with unfamiliar teammates and uneasy rivalries, all while The Crown plots their next move.

Absolutely love this title been waiting months for it to drop I was sad about the delay but it was well worth the wait my only complaint is that it was only eight hours long

Fantastic lore and story for fans of the show

Another great RWBY story by CRWBY. I'm glad to see some lesser known characters get their time to shine.

Fantastic!

while there isn't as much of a call back to the main show following team rwby this book still has a very well told original story that adds more depth to the wold of remnant.

Couldn't recommend this book enough

Excellent

This sequel to the other RWBY novel following these characters, After The Fall, was much more engaging overall than the first one but lacked some of what I liked in the first book. In the first novel, I found the plot to be relatively uninteresting but the characters and their flashback scenes were excellent. Here, there was a bit of a larger cast so it didn’t delve as deeply into the characters as I would’ve liked and a few were made minor characters to compensate for this larger cast, but the plot itself was much more engaging and felt reminiscent to early seasons of the show as well as reminding me of an episode of Justice League Unlimited involving mind control and cage matches. Similar to the first audiobook, I found the narrator to be good at some things but wasn’t as good at things like male voices or differentiating certain voices. I’m still in for more books in this series and fans of the show would certainly like these.

A solid continuation of team CFVY’s adventures.

I wish they had multiple readers for the many different characters instead of just 1 narrator. She did a decent job withing having to try and voice many different characters. I just feel it would've been better if they had multiple narrators acting as the characters. Sort of like the audio book for "Dune". I understand hiring multiple readers can be expensive, given a example like "Dune" has 7. However I wish this audio book had 2 or 3 to help give more life and diversity to the characters in the book.

overall I enjoyed the story

This book is great for fans who want to get to know the characters better. My favorite parts were with Team CVFE (hope I got that right) especially Fox. The story overall is good but there are some moments like with Neptune and Sun that I wish were handled differently or expanded upon. The villans of this book left something to be desired and while I got their motivation, it all came off as meh to me. the use of Jax's symbolance was OK but I never felt on edge for the danger. it was all shoulder shrug okay stuff. unlike the first one where you had moments of oh crap and couldn't put the book down. this book did not have that.

overall if your a rwby fan like me, get this. you should enjoy it

Good for Fans but...

So the first book felt a little all over the place with the switching between time periods and perspective. It was interesting. I liked the imagery/groundedness of Velvet’s opening lines and the development of the setting and talking about sand… but this one. Ah, this one has a larger cast of characters while maintaining a sense of character development. I enjoyed learning more about the culture of Vacuo, the dynamic between teams, and very much appreciated the study of the relationship between a school that casts a shadow over a city. The combat was excellent and it truly makes me long for volume 10 all the more. I think a mini series covering these books and filling in the gaps for character development would be amazing. I am not one of the fanatics who wants less of a focus on other characters. V7 and V8 were my favorite because it expanded the scope of the show and added greater depth to the main cast via comparisons to other characters and different dynamics. RWBY’s members each have their own relationships with others outside of the team and familial relations and friendships should be explored— and I’m so excited to see the reunion of the characters in this volume and team RWBY+J. Like, I did not care about CFVY until reading/listening to these books and they do a very good job of developing the characters. I didn’t even know the names of Scarlet and Sage and sure didn’t think much of the teams we meet during the arena matches of V3… but I went back and watched that when I was listening to this so I could Reese and Octavia and Arslan (and team SSSN) in action, and was reminded that BRNZ was a thing in the show!

Smoother Writing and Additional Character Development with a Larger Cast… Good Stuff!
