Not my idea of good old days
Ellen was dealt a lousy hand in life when she got the mother she had. The best thing her mother ever did for her was to sell her to Julia.. It was wonderful to see that Nell realized this. And took time to thank Julia before she died.
Nell was a fighter, and the only person she took crap from was her mother, but at the same time she had a heart of gold. Lesson learned, don’t judge a book by its cover. And don’t judge people until you’ve walked in their shoes.

Nelley (Queenie) had such a positive outlook on life despite her circumstances.

Resilience at its best!!

Amazing
From the beginning this book captured me. I couldn’t stop listening. Every character had a purpose and it just shows how life shapes who you are and so does your internal grit and determination. The narrator was easy to listen to. 5 stars all around!!!
