Ezra and Nehemiah work together, priest and layman, to complete God’s work—and you will not find two more different characters in all of Scripture. When Ezra learns that the Israelite leaders have been unfaithful to God, he sits on the ground appalled and pulls out the hairs of his beard; when Nehemiah hears the same message, he gathers the leaders together, sits them on the ground, and he pulls out the hairs of their beards!

For Paul, Corinth was nothing but trouble. In the winter of A.D. 54, a delegation from Corinth arrives in Ephesus to meet with Paul. They inform Paul that the church in Corinth has (1) developed factions and divisions among the believers, and that (2) believers are suing one another in the secular courts, and that (3) rampant sexual immorality is spreading throughout the church. In 1 Samuel we continue our narrative. Samuel is the last of the judges, and with his end approaching the people demand a king “so we can be like all the other nations.” As God tells Samuel, “it is not you they have rejected, they have rejected me as their king.” And indeed they have. The people choose a king, Saul of the tribe of Benjamin. Saul will rule Israel for an entire generation, but although he looks like a king, he does not have the heart of a king, and the weight of kingship crushes him.

Joel may be the earliest of the writing prophets; if he is, then he introduces the term “the Day of the Lord” as a reference to a set of final, catastrophic events that will befall Israel—and indeed all humanity in the “end times.” Illustrating his message with reference to a dreadful locust plague that occurred in the past, we shudder as God makes clear that if Israel does not repent something much greater than a locust plague will occur.

Great and entertaining presentation of Proverbs!

Excellent overview
Really enjoy Dr. Creasy’s teaching and his ability to contextualize the Bible in order to make it relatable in modern times. This lesson on the book of Proverbs was excellent.

Incredible series of lectures!
This is another great lecture series from Dr. Bill Creasy. He is always incredibly insightful and engaging. He often supplements the material with personal stories which are relevant and interesting. He has taken several trips to Israel and the Middle East where he visits the locations depicted in the Bible and he shares those first hand accounts which enables him to take you back to that point in time that the scripture is talking about.

Enjoyable reading of Proverbs
I enjoyed Dr. Creasy reading through Proverbs and picking out little gems. They ring true today as much as they did thousands of years ago.

Proverbs study
Excellent as always. His depth and breadth of the bible, along with funny stories from his own experience, makes it digestible and memorable. I highly recommend his other teachings as well.

Unusually Brief
I really enjoy most of Dr. Creasy's bible studies, however this one is extremely brief and does not treat the book as exhaustively as he treats most other Biblical texts, which made it difficult to give it a high score.
