Resumen del Editor

In Cascade Springs, New York, Violet Waverly and her grandma, Daisy, are the proprietors of Charming Books, where the power of the written word is positively enchanting.

October in Cascade Springs means tourists are pouring in for the annual Food and Wine Festival, and Daisy hopes to draw those crowds to the store. She asks Violet and the local writing group, the Red Inkers, to give a reading of the works of Edgar Allan Poe on the shop's front porch to entertain the revelers. Everyone eagerly agrees.

Yet their enthusiasm is soon extinguished when Violet discovers one of the writers dead in the shop moments before the event. After the shop magically tells Violet she'll need to rely on Poe's works to solve the murder, she enlists the help of her trusty tuxedo cat, Emerson, and the shop's crow, Faulkner. But they must act fast before someone else's heart beats nevermore.

Fun cozy read

I love the story line in this series. The narrator is ok, and you get used to her . Mystery mixed with humor and friendship in a small town, and maybe a little romance. Clean (language and sex) and a fun easy read for summer or to cozy up on a rainy day.

In Plain Sight

Loved it. Just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The animal s and village keep you grounded in the story.

I'm loving this series!

I can't wait to hear the next one. I love mysteries but the humor in Ms Flowers writing is even better.

Great plot with lots of twists and turns

I never saw the ending coming, or who the killer turned out to be until the very last. Most of all, I loved listening as the characters in the town came to life through the great narration. The pictures painted for me were delicious and it was hard to see the book come to an end.

Writers' Club, Magical Bookshop, Cozy Mystery

The second book in the series finds Violet and Grandma Daisy getting ready for the annual Food and Wine festival in Cascade Springs, with the Red Inkers preparing a reading of Edgar Allan Poe. Emerson, the tuxedo cat and Faulkner, the shop's talking crow are up to their same antics and keep the tale interesting. When one of the Red Inkers is found murdered, the entire town is in the middle of the festival and the handsome Chief of Police, David Rainwater begins the investigation. Vying for Violet's attention is also her high school sweetheart, Mayor Nathan Morton, whose family also owns one of the town's wineries. The old birch tree growing in the middle of the bookshop is being cared for by Voilet, who goes regularly to the town's spring to get water for it. The story is charming, just like the name of the bookstore and the murder is solved with Violet's help. Wishing there were more in the series . . .

One. Simple. Word.

Honestly, I am only about 1/3 of the way through the book, so I can't really comment on the story and the book overall but I could not submit it unless I marked something, so I based story and book ratings on the book so far. I am writing this because of one word. One. Simple. Word. The part of the book I have listened too so far revolves around a poetry reading of Edgar Allan Poe's works at the bookstore, but the narrator insists on pronouncing poetry as "po-tree". I wondered at first if perhaps she was trying to make it "Poe-Tree" but there is no mention of a tree related to Poe, so..........Poetry is not a difficult word. It's not like it's a hard to say medical term - if that were the case, I would be fine with it. I am hoping that the use of the word "po-tree" will become less prevalent in the chapters to come. Most of the time I am able to let the 'little things" in life roll off, but this one is getting to me. I know it's minor, but it is what it is.

cute book with a nice plot

I don't usually like magic or fantasy to intrude in my mystery books. But Crime and Poetry and Prose and Cons are exceptions! With a creative plot and plenty of surprises, Prose and Cons actually bridges the gap between reality and fantasy really deftly, making it a lot of fun.

The narration also was well-done. I really enjoyed listening to this book and look forward to more!
