Designed for an MBA course on private equity, this textbook (now version 1.7) aims to familiarize any listener with the jargon and mechanics of private equity using simplified examples, real-life situations, and results from thorough academic studies. The intention is to have a book that can be listened more like a novel than like a regular textbook. In order to have long-lasting impact on listeners, I believe in making things as simple as possible, boiling everything down to the essence, going straight to the point, and, most importantly, writing in an informal and hopefully entertaining way. The objective is for the listener to play this audiobook with anticipation of having a good educational time.

Bailed for the paperback

Aside from the audio book being Version 1 vs the newest paperback offering from 2021 (version 3), the performance of this audio book has made it impossible for me to carry on here. Great for the author perhaps -- I went out and purchased another copy (paperback), so his profits increase.

The fetish with accents (especially UK) is quite obvious when audio-booking academic work. Seems to be an otherwise harmless stupidity of US readers and publishers most of the time, but the gentleman here has a tough go of it. Emphasizing incorrect words more times than one could track. That's a little tricky to explain here, but it is immensely distracting and jarring to processing concepts.

Secondly, the production value is so poor it's evident that an overly restrictive budget or laziness was involved where neither is invited. Multiple, yes many multiple times, a sentence would begin, be flubbed, stop, and then be repeated correctly. Meaning, of course, editing was so overlooked that screw-ups weren't even deleted from final production.

Anyway, I'm annoyed, so I'm out.

Bought the paperback copy of the 3rd edition of the book and I'm enjoying it thus far.

Step by Step

Very interesting and step by step intro to PE. From the basics to the nuisances.

I can't say that I am expert because of this book, but it does a great job. The book can't help that I might not be the best student. So there were chapters I listened-to more than once. You have to follow to understand. The chapter on credit and measuring PE performance is great, that was new to me. I am an Engineer, not a finance guy.

The narrator is cool. "BOOM!" and an "MBA from Lobotomy Business School!".

Well done

Good coverage of concepts and excellent case studies combined with an example PE entrepreneur’s journey. No fluff and a lot covered. Primarily covers U.S. market.
