Resumen del Editor

The omnibus edition of Prepper's Crucible is a compilation of the first three books of the series. It begins when our group of preppers flee Phoenix, Arizona, in route to their ranch in Prescott, in the wake of an EMP that wipes out all power, transportation, and telecommunications networks. Once there, they hunker down until the threat of violence forces them to defend themselves and their neighbors. In a series of battles, culminating with and attack on the town by over 200 gang members, they manage to survive the first month following the EMP.

Great Book

I enjoyed the books and Kevin Pierce did an amazing job, as usual. Beware the next set of books are narrated by a different narrator and it is intolerable. I couldn’t listen to the second set at all so I am left wondering how it all turned out..

A GOOD PREPPER STORY WITH GREAT NARRATION!

What made the experience of listening to Prepper's Crucible. Omnibus: An EMP Tale the most enjoyable?

It was a good true to life story and the narration was great!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Prepper's Crucible. Omnibus: An EMP Tale?

The beginning and the end...I want to continue this series, but they switched narrators...why would you do that when you have such a great one already?

Which scene was your favorite?

When they Met Cory and went back and got him, and then invited his family to join them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This would make an interesting movie.

Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

I live in Az so this hits really close to home for me! This is a true to life very realistic fictitious story about an EMP attack...We have a group of friends who have been slowly preparing for this and are almost 100% ready when the world goes to hell...this is book 1-3...and I would love to continue the series...but they switched narrators...and I hate when that happens..Why switch narrators when you have an awesome one already!! Kevin Pierce is as awesome as it gets when it comes to this genre and he did an excellent job with this story!

I RECOMMEND!!!

Exactly what they prepped for happened, now what?

A team of prepper’s have been preparing for different scenarios, not because they think they will happen, but because they’re afraid it could. Well, they were right. Two nuclear devices were detonated in the atmosphere causing everything electrical to stop working. Aka, an EMP has gone off. Follow this group of survivors as they try and get to their camp and survive once they’re settled in.

Narration for this was done by Kevin Pierce. I know nothing about Kevin, but I feel like he is a prepper himself — I could be totally wrong, but he just had the perfect voice for this book. He had an air of auhtority like some of the characters needed, and a very “matter of fact” tone to his narration (which is how the book was written too). Kevin definintely added to the story with his narration.

Okay, so this book was good. Don’t get me wrong there. I’m really glad that this was an omnibus edition. If the book had ended where any of the “episodes” or whatever the author is calling them, I would have been livid. Even with that being said, the books just kind of ended. No real plot conclusion, just people doing what they can to survive.

The characters were believable to an extent. Some of them fit the actual “prepper” image that most people would have, while others seemed to be going along for the ride.

The interactions between the team and outsiders was a little rough, but I think that the author meant for it to be that way.

I really do like these survival stories, but this one just fell slighly flat for me. I think because barely anything happens. Sure, there was some action, some gunfights, and the likes… but it just felt like these people weren’t challenged enough or something like that.

This book was hard for me to rate because I liked it, but I just felt like it could have been more. Apparently there is a book 4, but I’m not sure what will happen in it that hasn’t happened in the first.

Glad I gave Bobby Andrews a second try

Any additional comments?

First, another stellar narration by Kevin Pierce. He has a perfect style for books in this genre and I'm consistently pleased.

On to the book...I wasn't expecting to pick up another Bobby Andrews novel so soon after the last one (which just didn't quite cut it for me), but because an opportunity to listen to Omnibus 4-6 in this series came up I wanted to listen to the first Omnibus beforehand. I'm glad I did, I was pleasantly surprised.

Although I did find some of the mediocre chemistry I was expecting based on my last Andrews experience, it wasn't as evident through most of this book. Furthermore, Prepper's Crucible hit an itch I have for descriptive, day to day life in the aftermath of the EOTWAWKI event. I like to hear details about the homestead, the procedures, the gear, the garden, etc - not necessarily TOO much detail though. I really enjoyed both One Second After and the Founders Series (Patriots, Survivors, etc) and I felt like Prepper's Crucible fell comfortably somewhere between these with a good balanced detail without going over every glistening nook and cranny of every single piece of survival gear coupled with plenty of community development.

There were some editing issues, but nothing bad enough to deter from the enjoyment of the book. Also, some of that lack of motivation or completeness in decision making I found with Andrews previously is still showing up here, just not as badly. I would definitely have liked to see more development and more content in some scenarios. For example key conflict/battle scenes lasting only a few sentences, warranting even less or similar detail as warming up and sharing beef stew. Why? Also some of the decision making or discussions that should have elicited much thought-provoking conversation or at least inner turmoil and emotion were written with a level of stoicism that didn't really match the characters or the groups. Another case where, without a doubt, this would have been pushing a 5 star listen for me if the content was more developed.

All in all this was a fun listen however and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I notice that Pierce is no longer narrating though, it's Mark Shumka; he will definitely have his work cut out for him!

Very good book

This was a great book and I enjoyed the story very much. I was glad I did not have to read it in segments. That would have really taken away from the momentum of the story. The characters are believable and well developed. The narrator was great and represented the voices with the characters well. I recommend giving this book a try. I felt it was money well spent.

A good story! Can't wait for the rest of it.

What other book might you compare Prepper's Crucible. Omnibus: An EMP Tale to and why?

This was my first EMP tale but I enjoy end of the world tales in general. The Stand is probably the best I have read but I have also enjoyed the Left Behind Series and most recently The Days of Noah was a really good one.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration of this story I am sure many will complain about as being very dry and monotone however I thought the reading fit the story well other than a couple places where the voices did not seem to match.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I thought this was a good story that held my interest throughout however there were some places where I questioned the story line where the author appeared to be filling out the story for no apparent reason. I often found myself anticipating what was coming next... as in "I know what is coming" but in every instance the author did not go the expected direction. This was disconcerting at times as there seemed to be an obvious buildup to... nothing... then the story just continued on as if there was no buildup.

Any additional comments?

I expected this to be a complete story but found at the end that there MUST be more coming. There are unfinished events at the end of the book. Can't wait for the next one to see what happens next! ...

Get the Omnibus...but you won't get an ending...

Would you consider the audio edition of Prepper's Crucible. Omnibus: An EMP Tale to be better than the print version?

Absolutely. Kevin Pierce feels like an old friend, and his narration makes even average books seem extraordinary!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not sure I have a favorite, I'm a character driven reader and there was a focus more on group dynamics than specific characters, so I wasn't particularly invested in any of them.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

He's clear, articulate (which is rare in audio book world) and brings life to every story he reads. His narration has saved many mediocre books for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but mostly because of Kevin Pierce.

Any additional comments?

I wish there had been a clearer ending, or a promise to return with another book. It sort of ended with a fizzle. Bad guys dead, it'll all work out, just another day. I appreciated the larger story, but there's so much more that could have been (or could be) told.

Excellent!

I have never been interested in post-apocalyptic stories before, I got this because I love Kevin Pierce's narrations. He was excellent, as usual, and I loved the story -- well written, fast paced and great descriptions of the prepper mentality as well as of the general setting and the personalities involved. Great story & narration!

Super Story

Where does Prepper's Crucible. Omnibus: An EMP Tale rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Prepper's Crucible provides an excellent insight to the challenges society could face should an EMP happen. Any story that creates thoughtful consideration is a well thought out dialog.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cory was a quiet leader that developed into a strong military leader especially after Dons death. Quiet and unassuming looking only to embrace the outdoors and find his sister to save his family.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Pierce's narration brings the story alive creating excitement and anticipation that makes you drive for the next part of the story. I read the second of this series due to the narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes pretty much did that.

Any additional comments?

Too bad the second part of the series wasn't;t narrated by Kevin Pierce. had to return the audible book as being to hard to listen to.
