Resumen del Editor

"Give her the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." (Proverbs 31:31)

For a Christian woman, motherhood is the subtle art of building a house in grace: "The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands" (Prov. 14:1). Each day's work is significant, for it contributes toward the long-term plan. Each nail helps a house stand in a storm. But motherhood isn't a simple formula. Building a home childbirth, education, discipline requires holy joy and a love of beauty. The mother who fears God does not fear the future.

This book is part of the Canon Press series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the ground messes that come with sinners trying to live under the same roof. This book on motherhood by pastor's wife Nancy Wilson covers everything from pregnancy to house rules to education to the differences between raising sons and daughters. Motherhood is a difficult calling, but the Bible has many things to say about how it can be an opportunity for service and love and growth in Christian joy.

Encouraging

Great book filled with Christian womanly wisdom. It was easy to listen to and not repetitive at all. I will be listening to it a second and third time.

Love the proverb/scripture used

.. but I couldn’t love the book. Though I have read almost all of the Wilson family and off springs books, this one was very narrow minded delivered. I found her doctrines and beliefs counteracted at several points .. for example .. barrenness is a curse “ always “ but a miscarriage and other misfortune is not .. I would argue that barrenness is just as much a part of Gods sovereignty and way to sanctify believers just as miscarriage is. Yes, barren women in scripture were cursed with that so then do we say all the miscarriages were also curses? No. A lot of rules govern her approach to raising children and being a sanctified mom and there seemed a large gaping hole of love and warmth and softness as a woman missing in her approach. She never once mentioned how a quiet and gentle spirit is precious to the Lord and is used in mothering - which requires a lot of love and smiling softness of the heart so I’ll take all her suggestions as a grain of salt. I’m not looking to raise little girls who aren’t allowed to cry and have disheveled hair at church. Yes, All things lead to sin such as crying but so could decorating a house so are we to not get the pretty table cloths she suggests that fulfills obedience in the domestic arts but oppress the child from having honest tears? Where do you draw the line you know? Is her husband allowed to smoke cigars indulgently but yet a child can’t wear play clothes to church? Just bizarre. Again, I love all of Dougs books and Rachel’s too but I found Nancy’s content too stoic and narrow minded as she spoke from her own experiences as being the only way. Can’t really recommend this book. I’d like to see the Lord sanctify softness and warmth into her heart and stoic-ness. I’d like to see her be more of a smiling happy woman which she isn’t .. and then I’ll read her books. She will say she is a happy women.. then I say .. let your face show it because that will be your heart shining thru your countenance. Write a book on that ..
