Family, neighbors, and friends work together to get through dark days without government assistance. The family strives to form a foundation to stand Pete in good stead throughout his life. It touches on divorce, prejudice, anti-Semitism, a shell-shocked WWI veteran, and loss of the family homestead.

I loved Evan Mulrooney’s acting by using the pitch and tone of his voice to depict all the different characters. He also displayed consistent use of regional accents to develop the characters. He used his voice to display many different emotions: anger, surprise, concern, anxiety and more. Evan’s reading
brought this well written book to life for me and I enjoyed it very much.
