Like the feeling....

There are some inaccuracies here, but it's clear that Carlin's intentions are good. The thing I had the biggest problem with were the atrocious accents of the narrator. Really awful.

Excellent and FASCINATING!

This audio book is EXCELLENT and FASCINATING! I love the theme that runs throughout, that is, that Paul McCartney deals with the pain of life with music. I can relate to that (being a guitarist myself)!

Great...But

Being a huge macca fan, i just wish it was longer. I'm also a Beatles fanatic, and i wish it didn't jump so ahead of time in various parts of the book. The author does provide great stories and facts about the life of macca, some stuff even beatles fanatics like me don't even know. It's a great book and the author did a fantastic job at doing his homework and composing it all together, but for a man like Paul. You just need a much longer book than this.

What happened?

Not a bad read and insight into some of the complexities and contradictions of the man. But still no explanation as to why he could not repeat anywhere near his musical genius with the Beatles. This will remain one of life's great mysteries.

Good book

The narrator can talk just like Paul McCartney. Highly recommended! Well worth a credit. If you like the Beatles, get this.

I found myself spending 10 or 20 extra minutes in the car often.

The refreshing thing about the book is that Carlin doesn't have to build up Paul by tearing down John and vice versa. Music journalists have spent too long trying to campaign for one and marginalize the other when we all know the band would have been much less important without the both of them.

If there is a central theme to Paul's life its how his working class work upbringing and his love of music has driven him his whole adult life. Sometimes those drives hurt people close to him. But as a major figure in Rock and Roll, Paul is pretty normal guy. His kids went to public school. He will still ride on the London underground.

Like most books about a former Beatle, the post Beatle years are most rich for new information. I think I learned more about his years with Wings here than any other source. I have heard McCartney's story about the two guys quitting him before Band on the Run, but I didn't know that it was based on money. I knew almost nothing about Paul from the last 20 years and there is a good summary of those years and albums. Carlin does a good job covering almost all the albums in both production terms and reception by the public. I wish all music biographies took that approach. He also explains the uneasy relationship with the rest of the Beatles family, including Paul's boycott of the Hall of Fame induction and the reunion for the anthology movie.

All and all this is every bit as good as Carlin's book on Brian Wilson.

Really amazing

This is an audiobook is interesting, the life and mind of Paul McCartney, from the Beatles to solo career, finally after the deaths of John Lennon and George Harrison. It has highs and lows, Love and loss.

Twisted

I did not like this at all. I think that he twist many things one in particular. In chapter 8 he says that John Lennon created the Beatles. He did not create the Beatles. The band members all created the Beatles. When John asked Paul to join The Quarry Men they were just that The Quarry Men. They became the Beatles. And yes Paul and George I'm sure did look up to John. But John not forget the age difference in the ages of George and Paul when they started they were teenagers. We all know how that goes Jon was about a year and a half older than Paul and a little over two years older to George. So of course they're gonna John that when they're young but he's talking about 1965 and the John created the Beatles. That's absolutely wrong. And to state that Jon was the avid guard and Paul was jealous of that is also just silly because it was Paul that was involved in all that much sooner than John. John at that time was living in the suburbs as we call them in the US. We know of course that Paul had said and get back that John was the boss. But anyone that knows the Beatles music has to know that there is not a boss when it comes to creating their music. In my opinion John started to resent Paul's talent. And not to mention that Paul's talent took him in a different direction somewhat than John. And trust me I am not saying that Jon was less talented than Paul. Their talents were similar and different and very many ways and that's why they complemented each other. And there would not have been the Beatles without John and Paul. and Paul would say all four members. He doesn't attack his bad members talents as John has done. Which is why I feel John resented Paul's talent. John went out of his way to put down Paul. And Yoko did too calling John the Mosark of the 20th century. John was not into all of the instruments I don't have the right words cause I'm not a musician but John would've never written a symphony. It's not a criticism with John created was fantastic. But they're just different very different and Paul has an innate talent I think of John is more of a poet that puts beautiful words to music. and Paul is a Nately the music man. I don't have a better word he knows how to combine all types of instruments into his music. They're just different. And together what a superpower. But I do not like the way this person put his own opinions about their personalities and their comments and what John thought so for so on. He was correct on most of his facts. And Jon did like to boast that he was the founder. And he was the founder of The Quarry Men. But they all created the Beatles. And let's not forget Brian's input. If anyone created the image of the Beatles as we knew them was Brian.
