Resumen del Editor

In a post-apocalyptic world thrown back into medieval times, young Prince Parno McLeod's family troubles have gone from bad to worse of late.

His father has been murdered by his insane sister and his brother has only narrowly escaped death at her hand. Now as Parno struggles to adapt to his new position as Marshal of the Army after so many years of being ignored, he must prevent his sister with her elite company of Soulan Calvary from installing her evil twin brother on the throne in his father's place. Likewise, he must struggle to prevent the realms other enemies from driving any deeper into his Kingdom's territory and with getting "reluctant" bureaucrats to help him by simply doing their jobs correctly in the King's name.

Parno has been fortunate, and he is a gifted leader for one so young, but he is young, and inexperienced. He has a plan that will save his people, but he's about to learn a very important lesson; no plan survives contact with the enemy. He will also learn that despite his successes so far, he is as close to losing the war as he has been since it began.

Now, gambling with his people's freedom, Parno tries to do too much, too soon, and with too few men. A gambit that he admits is dangerous, and may yet see the capitol of Soulan in flames!

I love this series.

I adore this author, the narration is first tier and the story, well this is my 4th time through so its great.

This is my go to when other Dystopic or fantasy novels or series become too dark. This series has heroism and sorrow but the characters are very likeable and the tribulations are overcomable. The battles and subterfuge are still interesting four times through.

Another great audio book!

Love listening to Parno’s battle campaign and his beloved Black Sheep troops!
There were a lot of moving parts in the book! Groups with the Imperial troops and all the other groups! So very exciting. Looking forward to what happens next!
We truly enjoyed listening to this book as we drove around town and across the desert!

Great Listen

This series was and is worth every credit. The Parno series is my favorite series of all the books I have so far, and I have almost 200. I like them because they are good stories and for the most part N. C. Reed writes a clean story. However, this book had one or two questionable parts, but they added to the story. I really enjoy the character development. It is important to have characters you root for and there is a lot of rooting going on in this book and in the next.

Not as good as the first two books

Sadly, this installment is not near as well written as the first two books in the series.

Enough already!

This is the third book in the series I have listened to and it will be my last. Two more books in the series that I just can’t bring myself to listen to. The battle scenes are ok but the love interest writing is painful. Just not even close to believable.
On top of that, the rehashing of old information is tedious. I’m not sure the editors did their job.
The first book was ok and held my interest enough to listen to the second in the series and that’s where the train jumped the track. Thought I could give the third book a shot hoping it would get better. It was all I could do to make it to the end.
I don’t often write reviews but felt I had too on this book. For my money it’s not worth the time invested.

My least favorite of the series so far

First the good. I have become very invested in the characters and how things are progressing for all of them, which is why I will move on to book 4. For me the war stuff is pretty boring. But I know it is a huge part of the story.

The not so good and pretty bad.
He needs a better editor. the writing is full of redundancies. He will even use the same phrase twice within a sentence which was maddening to me. the book could have been a third shorter because of this. phrases like " at the moment" used in the beginning of the sentence and then at the end. Certain words were used multiple times when not necessary. Phrases as well.
For me it was way too wordy. I don't need to know every single thing every single person is doing at every single moment in explicit detail. I think an editor would have been beneficial in this respect.
that said, I will be listening to the next book to find out what happens with my favorite characters.
I like the narrator as well. good job with the different voices.

Weak annoying and entitled female characters.

Good military fiction. horrible female characters. The main character is well done. I think this makes 15
